Default WOT is not really WOT

'87 and up

Ever noticed that with the gas pedal full to the floor the throttle plate is not fully opened? I would expect the throttle plate to sit level with the throttle body (and 90 degrees to the closed position), but it is still at a slight angle. Seems to me air flow is still restricted at full pedal. WOT is not really WOT. Anyone have an idea for a progressional mechanism...

Is your WOT switch closing with the pedal to the floor? Are the plast end pieces on your throttle cables still OK?

If your Bowden cable has slack it's going to shift early.

The throttle cable is adjustable, so you can recover that lost throttle opening. There's a spring that helps limit the stretch of the inner cable, but it's best if you can udjust so that there's as little spring action as possible. You'll want to adjust the bowden cable to the auto trans if you make much change to the throttle cable.

Now for the other news... The last few degrees of throttle opening don't mean much, at least for those of us that drive in US traffic at anything short of redline. The throttle isn't the limiting factor.

Not only that but the back-side of your gas pedal might have an extra indention for placing the heim ball further up/down on the pedal to allow for more operation.

Also, is your carpet(s) keeping the pedal from going all the way down??

Yes, yes. Cables are new.

Already adjusted as far as possible without tripping the idle switch.

But you do mash the pedal now and then...

Nope, just one attachment point. I wonder tough if moving the pedal forward increases the pull on the cable.

Nope, everything is down and stretched as far as it will go.
