Default Thank goodness for Delrin, Volvo & Roger

Just got the 928 back from the doctors after a Delrinectomy on the steering rack, new track rod ends and Volvo engine mounts plus a few more wyatts.

I thought the car was fine before the mods but it feels so much more smoother compared to the solid rubber mounts I had [and they worked just fine]. Not sure if the rubber was getting a bit tired or the new mounts are just that much more superior but ether way delighted with the result. It will be interesting to see how long they remain hydraulic in our heat but well worth a go.

The steering also feels noticeably taughter with the new bushes fitted.

A classy car feels even more classy!

Regards

Fred

Hmmm- seems my initial joy was a bit premature. I picked the car up in the dark and did not notice that the bonnet was not sitting correctly over the EIS inlet system.

Removed the EIS system and fitted the stock filter box and everything lined up fine. A bit of inspection suggests that if I can drop the height by about 0.25 inches then it wil clear. This is doable but it will need the correct amount lopping off the tee piece footing and the top of the MAF which means the inlet screen will have to go unless I can find a way to refit it in the final assembly.

The joys of 928 ownership- just hate working on the car in this dammed summer heat. I do like the EIS system so I will make it fit. The contact point appears to be on the top side of the rubber coupler units as there is no sign of any metal to metal chaffing.

Perhaps Mark K will be kind enough to lend me his fender rolling baseball bat!

Sounds like you and I had pretty much the same EIS fitting issues. Since mine is already powder coated, I'm reluctant to start hacking on it (especially since the powder I used has been discontinued and there isn't much left).

I would be interesting to compare your EIS installation to mine. How does yours compare to the various photos I provided in post #256 and post #258 in the New Product from 928sRus - Enhanced Intake System thread?

I can close my hood, but barely, and there's definitely contact.

Lowering the "Y" piece by 1 cm (note: 928s are incompatible with "inches" ) or so—by shortening it or something and maybe switching to using another sleeve with clamps on the MAF end—would help a lot, indeed.

Ed,

I became concerned about the possible foul after seeing your photos. If anything your photo's suggest your system is at least as high as mine and if so, I am left wondering where your bonnet [hood] aligns when closed. On mine it was clearly riding high at the back and you could see this from the driver's seat as well as when looking sideways at the bonnet horizontal alignment. Thus when closed the bonnet was effectively flexing. This may seem strange but I saw a similar effect when I once fitted the wrong strut dampers from the rear end- it effectively bowed the bonnet which is quite flexible axially as well as laterally.

The breather pipe across the top is a feature of the later GTS design- still woefully inadequate I believe. I do not think this causes any problems though. Should b easy to identify the contact patch by putting a thin sliver of oil or grease on the suspected point of contact on the coupler and testing for a contact patch on the bonnet.

Regards

Fred
