Two items; leather dye and stearing wheel
1987 S4
I had the seats reupholstered a couple years ago and the guy also "stained" my steering wheel. The stain did not stick so I'm looking for a better stain. Color is dark blue. It is the original steering wheel and I've never been crazy about it's appearance even when it was new. 1. Anybody out there can recomend a good dye? Source? 2. Anybody want to recommend a nicer looking wheel? Car does not have airbags. Thanks all. |
Paul Champagne or Rob Budd

Paul recommended Leather Magic (http://www.leathermagic.com/) to me a few years ago and I tried it and loved it. It's an exact color match and if you apply it correctly it is an exact finish match too, perfect for touch ups.

I re-dyed my black airbag wheel with Leatherique dye. Was bone simple and looks great.

Getting some of Leatherique prep agent and sanding with it will give you a nice base to start from. If you follow their instructions will produce very nice results and a nice feel.
I Think I have a momo wheel that was on the convertible. I would have to look for it but it had a nice feel. If you are interested I can send you a picture. |
I've put new leather from AGLA on two steering wheels. A lot of work and first worked nicely and second didn't. The wheels are subtly different making the cut of the leather tricky. Workmanship on second kit seemed lower, too.

I have not had good luck with AGLA. His color did not match properly. The quality of the leather was much inferior and communication was horrible. Went with Rob Budd and he did a perfect job.

I re-dyed my entire interior back to stock “tan”. I sent a swatch cut from underneath drivers seat to Leatherique and they made up the dye. The result was beyond my expectations and has worn well for over a year now.
A thorough prep agent application with repeated dye applications was a lot of work but way less expense than a recover. Low Humidity is critical. |

I dyed my steering wheel using SEM dyes. I also dyed my dash and my interior panels. Here is a photo of the wheel.
