I had an awesome time, and Porsche kicked **** in the ALMS races, winning both GT and GTC. I was paired up as the social media guy for the GT winner, Al Carter, so that was pretty cool. I was paired up with Will Power for the Sunday race. He wasn't nearly as accessible as the Porsche guys, but I still managed to track him down and shake his hand, etc. We talked about the cicane they had to add because cars were getting airborn going across the Howard St. railroad tracks! Oops. I also managed to get myself to the stage, as in front row, for Victory Lane. Got hit with the celebratory champagne!
As far as attendance, I'd say yes, the crowds were smaller, but according to the organizers, more people were actually paying to attend this time. I think the organizers are pleased with how everything went, considering they only had 3 months to plan and prepare. They are signed on for another 3 years if they can secure the financing again. The group than ran this event was far more professional than last year's.
The Porsche Platz was much smaller than last year, though again, that's probably due to the lack of lead time. The car corrals were noticeably smaller in general, and some marques were not represented at all (like Ferrari). I hope this changes for next year as that was a great part of last year's event; combination car show and race.
