Default Where is the central locking module?

Hi everyone,

I am a new guy here. I brought a 1991 928 S4 last week.

I would like to install a keyless entry system and cannoty find where the central locking module. Everyone said that it is behind/below the radio. I had spent a whole day today and dismount all of the panels around the radio. So far, I had removed the radio, left/right panel of the central console, fuse box wooden cover, glove box, drive side and passenger side lower storage panel and etc....

I had located the curise control box behind the radio, the lamp control box and...
BUT just cannot find where this central locking box is. My car is a right hand drive one.

Please help.

Also, does the led on the door pin suppose to work? Mine are not working mo matter what I did. The lock/unlock button in the central console works fine.

Thank you for any help in advance.

In my RHD 1991 S4 the module is integrated with alarm and located under RHS seat.

It also supplies the pulses to the coils in which the door posts sit. The LEDs are flashed inductively. I found a new impulse coil on eBay so can test the door posts. Just unscrew them and sit them in the coil of the impulse module when you apply 12v to it (works fine with 9v battery).

It's possible but unlikely both your door post LEDs have failed. Another possibility is fault in that central locking module.

Thanks for your reply. Under RHS seat, you mean under the driver seat?
If it is integrated with the alarm system, do you know which pin should connect to the aftermarket keyless module?

As for the door impulse module, I had checked the driver door voltage across it. It has a movment of voltage change after I had locked the car with keys. So there is some kind of voltage to the impluse module but maybe it is faulty. But I agree with you that the chance for both side faulty is small.

Thank you again.

Kevin - you will need to get the wiring diagrams for the car - there is no realistic way to work on anything without them. You can get an electronic copy - contact ROG100.

You will need multiple connections to the alarm module even just for a KE - and which will depend on the type of unit & type of install you want to do.

Kevin, Your '91 S4 has the integrated alarm controller('91+ cars), so KE wiring is the same as with the GTS. Take a look at this thread, specifically post #28, where Alan details the connection points.....

I had installed the keyless entry system to the integrated alarm controller under the driver seat. It works great, thanks for everyone's inputs .

I had connected to the central lock/unlock of the integrated alarm controller (connector 1 pin 11 & 12). When I use the remote to lock the car, the door lock pin does not flash. Is it should be like that? or I have a fautly impluse module?

Thanks.

Hi All

I have problem where the key or the red dash button has to be pressed several times for both doors to unlock. For example, unlocking the drivers door with the key doesn't unlock the drivers door and vice versa. I bought the attached, having done a bit of research, but I can't find it in my car!

I've looked behind the ash tray, beneath the drivers seat (RHD), but no joy.

The Porsche UK fitted OEM alarm is in the boot (trunk).

Any ideas where this module is? Have I even got the correct part? 92861812500

Thanks!

That's the module in my '86 you may have got the wrong one. Mine is located behind the carpet on the passenger tunnel.

There is no factory alarm in the boot/trunk area so I think the dealers likely fitted an aftermarket version - we have heard this before.

It is interesting because there was a factory version available - so I'd assume there was some UK requirement/specification that ruled the use of the factory version out.

Well,,,I found this in the centre console behind the radio - stuck down with duck tape! Looks like a 911 part? There was also tape over the hole for some reason!

Before I shell out for a new module, do we think it is the root cause of my issues - the central locking needs to be operated two to three times in order to open the door pins fully - they rise with every push of the locking button and turn of the key!

Thanks!

I'm pleased to report that replacing the module has cured my problems.

The doors now lock and unlock with a reassuring thud each time!
