New Shark owner....
Hi everyone,
I finally pulled the trigger on my childhood dream. She's a '87 928s4. The car is in great shape and shows 52k miles, a service (TB etc) was completed 500 miles ago. Better yet, I bought it from a fantastic seller who also threw the original chrome alloys (wrapped in brand new rubber) along with a bunch of spare parts. I do have to take care of a small leak from a power steering hose and I also need to get a CV Boot replaced. I will most likely take care of the hose but I don't know when I would have the time to do the CV boot so I will probably have someone swap it out for me. Also, I have to really lean into the throttle to get it going, could this be a vacuum line? I'm sorry I don’t have better pictures but I plan on detailing it either this weekend or next and I will post some better pics. I'm located in North NJ (Morris County), any local shark owners? Also, any reputable indy's in my area? I'm not very far from Power Tech in Rockaway and I have heard good things about them. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Have a great day everyone! If the pictures don't work I will try to repost them. I guess I cannot attach them from a file on my desktop. https://mail-attachment.googleuserco...cLt_w&sadssc=1 https://mail-attachment.googleuserco...6K38zgu3WAvk9I |
You can attach from your desktop. When you are submitting a post you should see a button that says "Manage Attachments" under the 'Submit Reply' button. You will have a small upload limit until you join as a rennlist member. If you so choose to do so.
But welcome and cannot wait to see the car. |
Check the throttle cable is routed around the pulley wheel under the air cleaner box, they do come off and then you get a stiff pedal or if the pedal is smooth but you mean you have to press it harder, could be a number of things but most likely MAF (airflow sensor). Vacuum issues will change the idle speed.
The PS hose leak can be serious (flammable) if it is on the high pressure side, get this done before driving it anymore. |
Congrats! Do you know which PS hose is leaking? I thought someone was F'n with the Matrix and I was having deja vu, but that was from your pre-purchase post...

Hi guys, thank you for the kind words.
whatudrivin - thank you! I will try to post some pics now. Pagnobito - Thank you for the info, I will have to check it out! NoVector - Thank you too! The leak is very small (maybe one drip/day) infront of the front passenger side wheel. From what I can see it is a very short hose, if that helps. lol Yup, that was me on that 1st post. I had the car looked at and seeing how clean it was I had to pull the trigger! Thanks again guys! |

NICE!
Good luck with her. |
Hey GDG, I'm in Essex County, welcome to Shark ownership!
Nice looking car. Good luck with it! |
Nice 928.
Best Wishes with it. Most likely the molded PS pump suction hose from reserve tank to PS pump. they tend to crack at the bends, especially the first one right under the tank. You might try a stainless braided hose - will make the 'bends' and will last. |
great car - congrats.
Love the 2 tone saddle/black interior, especially on a black car. |
Looks NICE.....great color combo....... Welcome to the Shark Tank!!!!
|
Congrats. You have a nice looking shark. I would recommend joining the forum (cheap and you get a cool sticker!)
|
I never got a sticker =(
|
Change the fuel lines now if they haven't been done before it burns to the ground
|
whaturdriven, poke around your profile area. I can't find it now, but there's a form for new members that if you fill out your address, they'll send you a sticker. I just got mine the other day!
