Default What is this part for?

Can somebody tell me what this part is? It's on the passenger side of the engine compartment. I noticed it yesterday when checking out something else. It appears to have a vacuum line that is supposed to connect with it. The vacuum line is currently plugged with a screw/bolt (not my doing).

Air changeover valve. It allows air (being pumped by the air pump) to enter the exhaust ports in the heads which is used by the catalytic converters to heat up quicker--which reduces emissions. Or maybe it just dilutes the exhaust emissions so it'll pass a sniffer test.

If you get a chance, check out Tony's site for the "what's that?" under the hood stuff

Nope. Not into the port but straight into the converter. The valve is a bypass valve.

Actually, both of you are right. ROW, without cats, the diverter valve injects into the exhaust ports:

You should be able to cap off that vacuum line at the throttle body if you want to clean it up a little and aren't using the air pump.

Thanks for all the responses everybody.

I actually did cap it off and forgot about it !

A few years back a couple Rennlisters helped me install and x-pipe and high flow cats. The since the air pump wasn't being used, one of the guys capped off the line for me. I didn't remember until I found out that part was for the airpump today.

Thanks again.
