The car Lizard repaired yesterday was mine . But judging by your pictures it looks very similar. I think mine took more of a hit directly to the hood as originally we had to jump on it to bend it back down enough to latch!!! My hood was folded and creased but my bumper cover was slightly scuffed and slightly pushed in. I picked up a good used hood $200.00 and a couple hour of Colin's, er Lizard's time$$$$$$$ and viola all we need is paint!!

After seeing the massive bumper under that plastic cover I would bet the farm it's not bent from those pictures. The bumper shocks are another story, mine were fine but it was more of a glancing blow than yours. You can do this yourself as could have I, but having someone who has intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the 928 really helps!!

Come on someome in NJ step up and give this guy a helping hand!! Pay it forward!!

Also, check the grille and supports - they're not so tough.

Hey guys. Do the bumper shocks leak when they compress? No liquid in the street where I hit.

My feeling is that the upper nose took the impact, pushing back the hood and hood latch. I won't know until I get it apart but I feel like the bumper didn't get hit that hard. The plan is to get a used hood and see where the body is. If the hood won't latch, I'll need some one to pull it out. Then, paint, a new nose and maybe the bumper and shocks.

Has any one gone to bodymotion in Neptune? They look like the best bet.

after looking at the bumper again it appears that the shocks are OK However they should be measured once the cover comes off also looking at the grill will tell you if the bumper bar has been pushed back as the supports will be bent

I took another look at the car today. The front end is definitely warped, the little rails next to where the fender attached are bent on both sides. The hood fits exactly into the hood latch, but the hood is severely bent.

So body shop, minimal. I'll take off the front nose just to see if there's more damage, but my feeling is that the upper nose took all the impact and the bumper will be fine.

Anyway I can re-use the nose? No tears in the rubber I can see. If there's nothing structurally wrong with it, could I just have it repainted?

Where to buy the used hood? A poster above mentioned getting one for $200, but those aren't the prices I see. Anyone have an '82 laying around the garage?

Thanks

I have a set of good front bumper shocks and bumper for your car if you are looking for a set. I also have a good clean dent free hood but dont know if it is the same for your car (came form 87 S4) and I don't want to hassle with shipping it.

I've got a hood for an early car without heated washer nozzles and I'm located in MD. Best of all, I stripped it down a few years ago, put on some Glasurit primer, blocked it, painted it, but the paint got screwed up because I forgot to use an inline filter. I got distracted and put the project on hold, and hung the bumper on the wall of the garage. It's been there ever since. The most you'd need to do with it is block it once, scuff the underside, maybe throw on a sealer, and paint. It's yours for $200. Send me a PM if you're interested. I'm located in MD BTW.

Does anyone have any opinions on whether the car is safe to drive? The hood closes, and latches. A generous rennlister has offered a hood at a great price, but its 4 hours away. I want to take the 928, but I don't want to run the risk of the hood flying up on the windshield. Am I being paranoid?

can you drive the car without the hood? Dumb question, but I wonder if it's legal. The last thing OP wants is to be stopped on the highway by a cop and told that car will need to be towed...

I think Brutus was kidding. In any case, not doable because until I get the front end pulled out, the new hood won't latch correctly.

I also wonder if you're allowed to drive around without a hood. Why not? Its not like a car is completely closed off anyway.

With my luck I'll hit a bird or something at highway speeds and it'll knock off something important.

It is legal. You still have bumpers and lights. Plates are visible. Not a safety hazard. Old hotrods often have exposed engines.

The hood will NOT fit inside your 928 so how do you plan to haul it home ??
