What is the nomenclature for the bulbs that are normally in the instrument panel?
If it works for your MY 928, really recommend you use Ed’s guide. He linked the LED part/order numbers to the vendor's website--so ordering them is "just a click away". I think I ordered every LED he recommended plus the others body lights in the GTS Instrument thread. My point is, I must have ordered 50+ LEDs from the vendors he recommends and of all the LEDs, I only received one that was off-colored and they all worked. Both companies usually shipped the same day of the order too. Good luck!

I know i have read it but it was buried in one of the other numerous LED threads.

Is there a good description out there on how to modify the fan **** itself to be illuminated.
I know there are 2 ways..
1) fiber optic
2) adding a small LED in the fan **** itself.

I'm interested in number 2....
I have the LEDs and resistors etc..

thnx

Using typical bulbs is a HUGE PITA and so is fiber optics

I did it multiple ways then finally settled on what I think is simplest.. Get a SMD LED (Surface Mount). They are small and very thin.

Drill holes in *** for the wires, leaving slack of course. Will have to toy around with different resistors to get so not to brigth. My first attempt was bright enough to damned near illuminiate the entire interior!

Simply glue it to the *** under the white fan looking thingy, run electric to it and done..

Got it done. I took apart one of the spare LEDs used for the back lighting of the cluster...it contains 5 surface mount LEDs. When viewed with a magnifying glass, each LED was marked + and - on its own board. I countersunk an area in the ****, drilled a hole, and ran the wires. I hot glued the LED in place and also place some over it as in one of Eds pictures. I then placed a "dime sized" piece of reflective aluminum tape over that.

The light reflects "outward" and not directly out through the ****. It also soften ups the light a bit and with some resistors i got the light level where i like it.

Sounds good! FWIW, you can get those SMD LEDs individually from SuperBrightLEDs (and other places), too. That "Little Dot" one might be handy, if it fits.

It'll be interesting to see if the SMD LED will survive very long after being covered with glue. I think they run a little warm, so the glue might cause overheating and reduced lifetime. Keep us informed.

I plan on converting my HVAC head to this approach next time I'm in there, too; the fiber-optic approach was a bit klugy.

Its rough looking but it works!
