Reat hatch lock motor - No cycle..
 

Hi there.

The rear hatch motor on my 90' GT does not cycle anymore. Before, when I pulled the knob the motor would open the rear hatch and cycle back to its original locked position. Now I have to hold the knob up until the hatch opens, then keep it a bit longer for it to go back to locked position. :banghead:

Any fixes or am I looking at getting a new motor?

I think the 1 amp fuse does the return, have you checked it?

Yes - replace the 1A fuse - that controls only the parking function.

if the 1 amp fuse does not make the latch cycle then you have a burned out transistor,
this requires removal of the bad transistor and swapping a replacement ,
its been covered and the repair has pictures

I repaired one of these already you do need a small soldering iron
it looks like its the transistor thats failed
I used a NTE transistor, part number NTE31. It has a higher current rating (1000mA) than the BC337 (800mA) so its slightly larger, but still mounts inside the gear motor case. Here's a link to the NTE31 datasheet:

Hmmmm, where is this fuse located on my 90 GT? It was easy to find on my 84 S2 as it was on the cable right by the hatch lock, however this is not the case on the 90 GT..............

Hmmm, connected the fuse, and the motor started to rotate continously, so I suppose I need to replace the transistor as per the thread linked above.....

Probably you will just need to clean the track - dissassemble the motor (easy) and clean the area of the gap - then see if it will park properly - metal sometimes gets smeared across the gap causing it to keep going.

Worth starting there.

If you take it apart, stuff the gearbox with heavy grease - that will sometimes slow the motor just enough to keep it from coasting across the gap. Might be better to do the elecronic repair, though...
