I just received my cowl cover from Jerry, and I have to say it is excellent. The materials are superior to the original. I fits great and looks fantastic. Fast shipping, beautifully packed. Jerry is the kind of guy you want to deal with.
Thanks,
Dave

I have bought about 7 of these cowl covers from Jerry over the years,
the most impressive thing is the packaging besides the perfect cowl cover.

and it comes with directions

Thanks Dave and Stan, for the great feedback. I'm very pleased to know that you are highly satisfied with these items.

I found myself imagining the shipping service folding one of these in two, even in a long slender carton, in the course of shipping them, so I devised a package including a wood frame inside to resist folding and then rolling it in corrugated cardboard. So far I have not had one damaged in shipping.

Thanks for the interest.

I finished and shipped the Cowl Covers to fill the orders that resulted from my recent bump of this thread. They are scheduled for delivery Friday, but I suspect more likely Saturday. They are going by Priority Mail.

Mike, since you ordered two of the Covers, and that saved me on the packaging, I included an extra Shell Sticker for your 82 to replace the one on your Intake Air Box, if you like. I had duplicated that one a while back when I discovered that it is slightly smaller than the same style sticker that goes on the Cowl Cover.

Thank you guys for the orders.

Default Unboxing the new cowl cover

Lots of thought went into the packaging

The original is starting to split, though the seal and stickers are fine. I'll store the original.

Obvious which one is superior.

I'm having a bit trouble fitting the left (driver's)side against the body-colored strip beneath the windshield..

If it is too tight you need to just pull the firewall toward the front of the car until it is in the correct position.

Thanks for the report.

Installed mine today and here is my advice. take off the wipers and unscrew the two 10mm bolts on either side of that body panel covering the wiper openings. Under that panel are 3 tabs that hold the cowl to the underside of the body panel so they don't drop down onto the wiper mechanism. By unbolting that panel and removing the wipers you can lift up that panel and secure the cowl under the 3 tabs. Once installed you then tighten the panel with the two 10mm bolts.

Those three tabs (4 in the GT and GTS) are fairly bendable, so my advice is to simply bend them down a little bit then place the back edge of the new Cowl Cover between them and where they are mounted, then lift the front edge of the Cowl Cover up and reach under and bend the tabs back up snug with the New Cowl Cover.

When you are doing a few more Jerry can you let me know please. I'll need a RHD one.

Cheers

Thanks Scott, for your interest. I keep these in stock and when the count gets low I usually have more vacu-formed, since, sometimes the forming place has a backlog of work that takes a few weeks.

The RHD version is reverse from the LHD, in its configuration. They are the same $90 each, the Seal is $15 and the single sticker for yours is $5. The S&H to Australia is $45, and I might have to eat a little bit of it at that.

The center tab on my car needed to be bent down a slight amount, but by taking off the wipers and unbolting the two 10mm bolts I was able to lift up on the panel and slide the cowl into place with no resistance in about 10s. BTW, the packing was great and you could probably drop this from an airplane and it would cause damage. I am always **** about shipping so I appreciate that you take the time to custom package these delicate pieces. I guess I need to search to see what else you offer. Do you have a website?

The new cowl cover fits very well on the forward edge of firewall. The problem with fitment on my car is shown in the photos below. I have what appears to be a perfect fit against the neoprene seal on the right (LHD passenger side) and a gap on the left (driver side). Note the larger panel gap between right fender and body-colored strip beneath the windshield, and the much smaller gap on the left (driver) side. These differences seem to account for the fitment issue. I laid the original cover over the new one and noticed the original makes no attempt to be a perfect fit, and may appear to "fit" better when all clipped in simply because it's so thin and flexible (the flimsy flexibility hiding imperfections in body panel assembly). I have noticed the panel gap difference before. I've thought about adjusting the fenders myself....first removing them from the car for repainting and trying to reinstall them better than the factory did. On the other hand it may be wishful thinking to assume better fitment can be achieved on a car designed and built before CAD and robotic assembly.

Right side...perfect fit. Note larger panel gap at bottom of photo. The means fender is mounted forward enough to place trip piece bolt forward...making the good seal with the neoprene strip on new cowl cover.

Left side...note tighter panel gap at bottom of photo...note gap between trim piece and neoprene strip on new cowl cover.

Jon, I bumped my older thread about installing one of my Cowl Covers, which addresses this very situation. I think the cars were probably all made very accurately, but over time, with no particular support for the top edge of the firewall, they seem to get out of place. Putting them back in place is not too much of a big deal. Pulling the firewall forward is pretty easy, but pushing one back into place is kind of tough. Look thru the thread and give it a go.

When I designed these Cowl Covers I first followed the curvature of an original factory Cover in the back. Then I happened to notice in one of my cars that the back curve of the Cowl Cover did not match the curvature of the metal Cowl Trim just forward of the windshield. So, I used a spare metal cowl trim to match the rear curvature of my Cowl Covers and modified all 5 of my forms. The result is that my Cowl Covers match the trim but all the Factory ones do not. But the firewall may need to be moved to get the fit correct. Again, see my installation thread.
