Jerry, Can you bring one of your cowl covers with the appropriate stickers for an '85 to Sharktoberfest? I can prepay now or pay there--whatever works best for you.

Yes, Glenn. I am working up about a dozen or so of them and will have them with me and some of my other items also. You can pay me then with cash, check or credit card. I'll be a the Embassy Hotel late friday afternoon I think and we can take care of it there also if you like.

That's great, Glenn. I'll put the cover in for you while you are opening the cool one.

Jerry: as promised hereby a few pictures and my feedback, as during this weekend I finally had some additional spare minutes (work has been super busy for many months now) to finally spend on preparing & installing this.

Preparing has to do with that the fact that my 928 is MY1994 and on those (and MY1995) there is 1/2 inch fiberglass matting + heatshield in place to protect the cowl cover from heat of the resistor pack (which regulates the blower speed). All that was needed was to remove this glued on part with a knife, and (re)glue it to the new cowl cover and let the glue dry.

Summary:
- Your shipping was very fast and the packaging excellent: the wooden frame surround protects the cowl cover exceedingly well, and is certainly a good thing for shipments (especially international ones).
- Installation is simple and to the point and only takes minutes with great fit & finsih, and your provided two (2) pages instructions are as detailed as it ever can be.
- Overall a great product and as the original should have been, as your's is thicker and much sturdier. The additional seal your provide is also top-notch.

Another happy customer!

Note: bottom one is factory original, top one is Jerry's replacement.

P.S. Interesting perhaps: I have four (4) metal taps, instead of the reported three (3) ones in this thread.

Thanks Arnoud for this great report. I am always happy to have been able to contribute something like this to enhance your 928. I too have just learned that in some of the later cars, perhaps starting with the 90 MY, there are four tabs or clips under the back of the cowling area for mounting these covers. I discovered the fourth one in my 90 GT when I was doing this installation in it.

I changed two of the original forms so that I could make the opposite covers for the RHD cars, and have sold a few of those to the guys on the other side of the equator. I was going to say the guys down under, but that sounds so kind of negative, and then I have to consider that it my be us "up" here who are actually on the underside of the world.

I think 'down under' is accepted as OK by the Aussies - at least the ones I have met..?

Arnoud - you now you'll have to clean your engine to match the cowl !

Like you I think Jerry's cover is far better than the original and is in fact what Porsche should have built in the first place. And yes that extra seal on the back edge is genius!

If you need a new one don't even think of buying a new stock one - just rubbish in comparison.

If you absolutely must have a stock one - I have one to sell - yes I took off a perfectly good stock cowl to put this on - it's that good. Can't honestly recommend you to buy it - get the good one instead.

And thank you too, Alan, for your nice plug. When I develop and fabricate these kinds of things for the 928 I always strive to make them at least as good and usually much better than the originals. Unfortunately, for the purists, I usually have to depart somewhat from the design of the original part in order to have the improvement I desire, but more often just so I can make the part at all. However, with these cowl covers I didn't have to deviate much in order to get the improved design and fit that these Cowl Covers have.

Do you still have these available? I've cleaned up my engine bay and now the cracked original looks real out of place.

I put some more of these in the mail today; and should I remind those of you down under and so forth that the RHD version of these Cowl Covers is also a reality and available.

Jerry,
Got mine in the mail today for my '82 euro (quick shipping!!) and though I have the blower/recircultion flap torn apart to fix the vacuum actuator, I trial fit the cover. It fits and looks great!

After seeing first hand the amount of leaves and debris that I had to clean out from around (and in) both the box and blower due to the half cover that is original on the older cars, I am glad to have the full coverage that your cover offers!

Packing was great too! Even though the package had a hole in the top it from shipping, the part was well protected by the wood framed box and was undamaged!

Thanks and a big +1 for making great parts like this for our cars!
