86.5 Project update

This weekend I purchased an engine for the 86.5 project. Here is a new web page for the project. The engine looks good so far.

http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/pr...ck/black86.htm

Most of the primer was done this fall and some of the smaller parts are painted and polished.

The engine has some bent valves but since the engine is out of the car I cannot use to starter to do a compression test. I tried turning the engine by hand but got nothing on any cylinder with a compression gauge. Any suggestions other than pulling the heads to determine which valves are bent. I have never done a leak down test, but the flywheel is off so locking the engine in a position is out as is using the starter on the stand.

Thanks

The engine is out, I say pull the heads and do it right even if one side "appears" fine.

Dan, I have any any and all the parts you may need for your engine short of valves and may have some of those when i pull the heads. I have an like new tensioner pully witl all its components if you need them. I bought the parts off an engine that had just been rebuilt in Hawaii and then seized 5 minutes after he started the car. What a bummer.

PM me if you need anything,
Frank

The engine is stripped down. Block is great. Cleanest water jacket I have seen. Good end play, no scoring on the cylinder walls and very little wear on the cam lobes.

Bad news - 14 bent valves. 4 intake valves on each side and 6 exhaust valves on the left head.

Does anyone have any used valves they want to part with? Next stop is the machine shop to rework the head.

I do have one question. What is in an upper end gasket kit. Will it include all the things from the valve covers and intake manifolds and the exhaust rings? I am going to use a silicon oil pan gasket with a stud kit so I really do not need a complete engine gasket set?

Thanks
