Found an LED brake light kit...
...that functions as a flashing third brake light, sequential turn signal, and running lights. It's sold at Auto Zone, and the manufacturer is Alpena. I opted to discard the sequential function, since it doesn't sequence in time with the turn signal, and wired the running light function to the turn signal circuit instead. I wanted to keep the lights invisible unless the brake lights or turn signals/hazard flashers were activated, and also not alter the appearance of the exterior. Here is the car with the hazard flashers activated (but no LED's):

I assume you're referring to my avatar? I'm a history buff; I also fly air combat simulations online. I'm a member of a virtual WWII Luftwaffe squadron. We fly German aircraft because they require more skill to be successful in. We are like the Civil War reenactors who dress up in Confederate uniforms and reenact battles for the fun of it; we are no more ***** than they are a bunch of racists. My squadron has members from all over the world, and we are not interested in rewriting history, or promoting the aims of a bunch of murderers from the Third Reich. The picture in my avatar is a screenshot from an online fight against a skilled opponent against whom I managed to get in a decisive shot. (The shot shows him in a power dive to put out those flames; he actually managed to land safely.)

3rd Brake Light
Being so tall, wanted to lose the later (84+?) 3rd brake light. It really got in the way when looking in the rearview mirror. Installed a thin, red when brakes applied, cut to size, led strip from www.superbrightleds.com. Did switch out the hatch glass to an older model (pre 84?). It's also mounted up higher close to where the stock light was. Credit to Jim M for his similar mod. 77Tony

You wouldn't be the first person to be at fault when rear-ended due to a modified brake light.
At least the light Jim used should have a proper DOT stamp since it came from an Audi.

It is illegal to modify the brake lights; it is NOT illegal to add additional lights to the system, as long as the original lights are unaltered and their function is not impaired in any way (the LED's draw so little power that the light monitoring system is unaffected, and they activate a full half-second quicker than the incandescent brake lights), and thanks for the compliment...the dog in your avatar looks like he's just about to say something, great pic, lol...

Wow...that's some leap.
The small sticker is the logo of our business, which specializes in German car repair and performance, German Performance Options; the German eagle on that sticker is the Imperial German Eagle, which if you know your history, dates from the late 1800's or earlier. The Panzer Brigade sticker was put there as a joke on one of my friends. In case you weren't aware of it, white is the most popular color for cars, at least here in the U.S., which is why most cars stolen tend to be white. No preference on the part of thieves, just the odds.
My other car is red, btw, and both my bikes are black. Can't wait to see what conclusions you draw from that.

It's illegal to modify brake lights? In which state is that enforced? I don't know about where you guys live but I move around a 6-8 state area all the time, coast to coast, and one of the prominent modifications on cars are brake light mods. Clear lamps, bad LED lamps, extra lamps, the blinking 3rd lamp, proximity lamps, you name it.
The biggest issue I see with this kind of thing is it contradicts "normal," creating a distraction. I'd rather not be so deviant from what people expect that they focus on the oddity instead of stopping their car.
