Super Nice (But Super High Asking Price) 928 GTS on ebay

I can be one of the biggest skeptics here about resale values of our cars, but I have no doubt that he'll get close to his asking price. He has repeatedly shown a willingness to wait for and the ability to find the right buyer for these low mileage GTSs.

If this unit is sold at the asking price would that necessarily increase the market value for all GTS's?
Is it possible that its getting more recognition as a collector car in the mainstream market?
I noticed that when I went to Edmunds to get a used value for (now mine) 94 GTS it didn’t reflect what i was seeing on the market ($16-17K) but when I was in Kelli BB it had it closer to $40K.
That, along with Wilhoit's comments to me that he was moving them at a brisker pace than usual lately makes me wonder????

This topic has been discussed many many MANY times. I see you are one of the new guys here so you might not be up to speed on the history of several of the low mileage GTSs that have sold over the last few years..... There have been several sold by Micheal for north of $100k. Search for Willhoit and you'll find several threads. I sold my 95 GTS 5M (12.5k miles) in 2007 for more than the original MSRP of $86k which was the high water mark at that time which has subsequently been bested several times since....... Throw the valuation books out the window as most are not even in the ballpark when it comes to the GTS. Additionally, Excellence Magazine is just as worthless when it comes to values...... Well, unless your a buyer and find an uninformed seller to take advantage of by using these numbers.
These cars are not like the housing market in any way as there is a seemingly an endless supply of houses available for sale at any given time vs a finite number of GTSs. Take a low mileage GTS, a 5-speed and the number is quite small. When was the last one you saw for sale? On the other hand, I can find 100+ homes available in your zip code!!!!!
He will get his price and he will get his price on the next low mileage GTS he gets his hands on.......
FWIW, if (IF) I were to consider selling mine right now the number would be north of $125k!

I know I am going to take alot of heat for this so apologies in advance...but for that price, there are other cars that would peak my interest. Don't get me wrong I love my 87 S4 dearly but this competes with other nice German cars like Audi R8, CL65 AMG, 911 Turbo (newer model), Panamera Turbo (0-60 in 3.8 sec).
I have seen a half dozen in 5 years and all were beaters except for 1. I wouldn't take anything in place of mine.

It's a very very nice example too. I've seen it in person a few times now. I'm also surprised that the guy who bought it is selling it.

For the money on new luxury and performance Cadillac CTS-V (0–60 in 3.9 sec).At Nurburgring its within a few seconds of the Panamera Turbo and the CTS-V is a good price at the $60k-70k area compared to maybe $170k for Panamera Turbo.Euro cars are high priced but some are willing to pay it.
The market will say what the GTS is worth when it sells.

Race Car
This car is like the low-mileage Dodge Superbee/Plymouth Roadrunner with a 4 speed & Hemi in 928 terms.
It's not the specs--it's the package...the person who buys this doesn't buy it for the 0-60 times or top speed. They buy it because it is the car that they lust and possibly even love. It may be a 15-30 year old love of their youth or it may be love at first sight. In any event it is a priceless car to them and they have the scratch to enjoy it.

I agree that this is a fair asking price for this particular car given the rare sunroof delete option, mileage, condition (albeit needing a bit of detailing), etc. This may even be the last opportunity for someone to purchase this car. I think that someone (probably a collector) will realize that and feel that it is worth every penny.
The only thing that bothers me about so-called "mint" condition GTS's, and just about any other model of car, is that mileage seems to dictate the value as opposed to condition. Now, if you can find and afford a low mileage GTS in mint condition, go for it. However, I've seen extremely low mileage 928's that were, both mechanically and cosmetically, in horrendous condition. On the other hand, I've seen high mileage cars that look ALMOST brand new. Unfortunately, the low mileage cars in poor condition command a much higher asking price than the cars in good condition with a few extra miles. Logic does not necessarily have a grasp on people's minds when it comes to buying a car, but most people don't possess any logic anyway.

Wilhoit short story:
Two years ago I was driven to Springfield, MO to give a talk. I had been looking at 928s and decided to combine business with pleasure. Showing up at sport car dealer in a limo is not the best strategy, is it?
Well, the trip was 3 hours. I arrived in Wilhoit's showroom with a PPI checklist and checkbook in hand to look at a green 93 GTS automatic. Due to confusion in scheduling, he was at home with the car. And he wouldn't return from across town with the car for me to see.
There were a few sales staff in the showroom. Plenty of 911 variants, too. No one offered to show me anything else 'that might be interesting'. In fact, they acted like I didn't belong there, go away. OK.
A few months later I purchased Jim Morton's 93 GTS and never looked back. In retrospect, I'm sure I ended up with the right car! But I'm also glad that Wilhoit guy is helping to maintain the value of mine. Wherever he is.

You got a VERY nice GTS...........for a good price too!!!!
Wilhoit does set the "high market" standard for GTS's......while I think this price for a 94 is WAY TOO HIGH....especially in this soft economy... However my thoughts are coming from a person that CAN NOT afford a near $100k used car....even a "collector" like this GTS..... One thing I am certain of...I sold a true concours condition 928 S4 for $14k.....and looking at the engine pic of this $100k 928....my old S4 would beat this GTS in a concour by a LARGE margin... For that $$$$ at that mileage it should be PERFECT...spotless and undercarrige....anything less is unacceptable.....sure its a $2k+ detail service by someone who knows what they are doing.....but for that price....I would demand it
