I'm curious as to what insurance companies you use for your 928. State Farm no longer offers a collector policy and Hagerty informed me yesterday that they consider Louisiana too dangerous to insure because of "you know, Hurricanes." Note that they insure cars all over Florida and south Texas, which I'm guessing are somehow immune to tropical events (Andrew, Rita, Ike, etc.). It was quite possibly the dumbest conversation I've had with someone in quite a while. Perhaps they are simply discriminating against Cajuns and Creoles.
Enough on Hagerty and ignorant underwriting; are you guys using someone who recognizes low-use, 3rd-car kind of insurance or I am stuck with a major and major rates?
Thanks in advance.

It may be a way they can dodge the "your level of petty crime in Louisiana is ridiculously high" issue. Who knows. Very ignorant conversation though, even so far as to say that hurricanes cause flooding everywhere in Louisiana but it magically ceases at the borders. Folks, if Baton Rouge floods then most of the southern USA will be underwater...we are what scientists call "above sea level" here.

I use American Family. They have an "antique" (I think they call it) for 20+ year old cars. My Supra is around 150 and the sharks are a little over 200 for one year full coverage.

I've had Grundy for a few years and so far, so good.

I also had a similar "ignorant" short conversation with Hagerty (different issue). Insurance is strictly a numbers game; they have a customer profile and decided Lousiana numbers needed to be reduced and that's that. State Farm's pitch that they offer personal attention has some value (and I'm sure they get it back in some monetary form), although I wouldn't get too warm and fuzzy over it, but I probably wouldn't call Hagerty now even if my situation changed. Their phone etiquette, for lack of a better word, leaves a bad taste; I wouldn't want to have a claim in their hands on something relating to a shark. You get what you pay for.

USAA has the 3rd car/low milage rate; but I never felt like it was that much of a discount.
Did you try Grundy? There's also Leland-West Insurance--endorsed by PCA.
For truth!

You can insure your car for full replacement value without an appraisal at Philadelphia Insurance Companies: 877-438-7459. You tell them how much you want your car insured for, they bill you accordingly. 77Tony

Same with my Am Fam (no deductable on glass) but I haven't tried to collect so I don't know the real value of the policy.

I've been using American Collectors Insurance for a few years on several cars (all 15 years old or older). They are all registered as classics or antiques in PA (over 15 or 25 yrs old), and they are insured at my set value. I haven't collected any claims on these cars.
But - 5-6 years ago, Am. Collectors Ins sold a track car policy. I had it for 2 years, and totaled a car on a track in Canada. Took about 10 days to get everything settled, primarily due to the location of the car outside the US for the adjuster. But, they paid just as agreed upon, then I bought the car back at a very reasonable fee.

I have my 928 insured with State Farm as a 3rd vehicle/limited use. It is insured to an agreed upon value and I pay a little over $120/yr. I filed a claim this summer on my wrecked front bumper (which I did by bumping it against the house) that S.F. paid out over $800 to get fixed. I've used S.F. for over 27 years and have always be very happy with the company, my agent and his staff.

I've used Safeco Ins. for over 25 yrs for more than just our cars & I can attest that they take care of their customers. They have a Classic Car program for older, '3rd vehicle', cars that is at a competitive rate. I believe you have a couple options on the mileage limit & you can decide upon a 'stated value', on the car. I haven't had to collect on these policies, but on other regular car policy claims, and on past home owner claims, they were excellent every time in taking care of us. The joy of a cheap insurance policy rate fades really fast when you have to fight with them to get a claim paid.
