S4 engine lift eyes..

Where are those sposed to be?

One at the front of the pass side valve cover..where is it on the right?

I just had to buy them..to raise my engine for mounts..I didnt have any. :)

I lifted the engine off the waterpump loop to change the motor mounts.

1 M8 x 20 bolt per bracket.

Wow Rob ... I'd venture to say that your engine is better than when it was factory fresh. Impressive, and a standard to aspire to

Nice! Yesterday I was making a mental list of parts to be plated, but couldn't come up with much. Now I know which ones I forgot..

...why does that seen about 10x easier than building a large cradle??

Do tell more..

If you're just setting up to do motor mounts then using a lift bar or cherry picker on the ignition wire bracket on the WP is fine. I woulda sent you home from SF11 with my lift bar had I known, damn thing is taking up space:

From the oil pan gasket thread with tabbed washers...

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...k-washers.html

I used two jack stands under the clutch housing, while the body was supported by another two jack stands at the front side lift points. On each stand, I used two 2”x2”x1/4” shims for precise positioning. Installing these engine support stands requires jacking the body, already on two jack stands, higher on one side (jacking at the side rear lift point).

The shims I used are common structural washers from Home Depot.

Jeff-

Sorry- the only difference between those 'after' pics and the pic from below (day I bought the car in 2006) is an intake refresh, plating, bead blasting of some of the brackets and manifolds, and lots of cleaning. Mostly cleaning. Other than the 2/6 rod bearings and the cam chain pads, I've never really been inside the motor.

Your after engine pics make me want to go clean my already clean garage, re powder coat my engine and clay bar my car.

THe factory lift brackets are too thin imo.. I made thicker ones and had them plated.

I can't see having a car over me supported bolt heads on a couple washers taped to jackstands. I don' t like jack stands, but at a minimum I want them on something big enough that any kind of lateral force still won't allow them to slip.

Fender lift is still something like $50 at HF?

The tape only _located_ the pads.

Once they had load...they're centered and not goin anywhere.

?

With that technique, the weight of the car is supported by 4 jackstands, not just the two shown with shims. You have a good point about lateral forces in this earthquake center (California).

So you trust the load overhead with just a few M6 bolts screwed into aluminum at the water pump?
