Clear pictures are forthcoming, I promise. You all want to see what the guy's girlfriend did to the finish before I refinish it...
Not my first rodeo but absolutely my first Porsche. Should be a whole new, fun, experiment.

Welcome! I bought my 80 Euro a few years ago in similar condition. Being fairly mechanically inclined, I was looking for a bit of a project. It's just right. I can fiddle with it or or drive it. My suggestion - change all the fluids and go drive it. It's a non-interference motor so breaking a timing belt won't be catastrophic. Every repair you'll need to do has been done and most likely documented somewhere in these forums. Ask questions and select from a wide array of answers.

Well, here I go.

It took about three days to clean the car up. These pictures were taken after the first cleanup. Since then I've applied power to it, found the source of the fuel leak, attached the shift angular bushing, and sorted out the interior electricals were were disconnected (thankfully not cut) but the previous owner. Still have to work through quite a bit but plan to fire it up once the new strainer and seal are in. I was able to fire it up after changing the oil and checking things out but it wouldn't stay running, probably because 90% of the fuel was dumping out of the *** end of the car.
The previous owner doesn't know the history of the "who keyed it" question but it was certainly keyed quite well. Probably a "you love that car more than you love me!" or "you did what to who in that car?" moment in its life. So it gets repainted, which I enjoy. It was originally a green, I ordered the original build sheets from Porsche and plan to get it back to original sometime soon.

Wow they certainly did a number on it with the key.
Sounds like good progress.
One thing on getting it running - once you've fixed the rear end leak, before trying to run it, drain the old crappy fuel, put new shiny fuel in, and just jumper the fuel pump and let it circulate for a while, with a good dose of injector cleaner/berrymans/marvel mystery oil in the new fuel. That will flush out the fuel lines back through the return side of the pressure regulator, with less risk of clogging injectors etc.
Oh - your picture is showing as huge - I had to widen my browser window to see the whole picture

Welcome....!
Welcome to the 1979 928 OB Club....just formed it 5 seconds ago....!
I love mine, among others...and Man did that woman get pissed off.....!
Seriously.....gas leak 1st...and confirm, with fire extinguisher at hand, that all fuel is staying inside the lines....many a sad story of fire with our cars.
Cheers and good luck with it...start with fuel line integrity 1st...get ahold of Roger at 928srus for the fuel line kit....and then fuel delivery...and on to the CIS Distributor and Warm Up Regulator...lots of info here......Cheers and be sure to ask for advice....we all get it
