Default 81 heater fan speed problem.(rheostat)maybe

have a fault with my 81.i didn't have a heater fan working when i bought my car,i have recently replaced my fan motor as there was a dead short in it causing the fuse to blow if the switch was turned on.i now have full speed only, working on the fan speeds.i think the problem is the rheostat does that sound right? and where is it located?thanks mark..........

It sounds like the resistor pack - may even be just unplugged. This is located under the plastic cowl (if still there) in the engine compartment in the firewall section below the wipers - central on the plenum mounted through it with connector on the back (resistors live in the airflow from the blower motor. If its unplugged - plug it back in. If its plugged in you probably need to replace it. Search under "magic blower" you will find lots of details
