Engine swap 80 euro m28/12 into 82 US
I picked up an 80 Euro S with a dead transmission. Might be worth sorting issues and getting it back on the road but I'm thinking its probably a better candidate for parting. For those that get all worked up about parting a running car feel free to shoot me with offers.
Anyway... my plan is to pull the motor and stick it in my 82. Never doing an engine swap on a 928, I'm wondering just how involved it will get in putting this euro s motor into my 82.

Right the fuse and relay panels are different as is the wiring since one is CIS mechanical injection ....so it is NOT plug and play. But CIS has no brains and has rather simple electrical needs to run. You could run the 82 intake and injection but it would take quite a bit away from the 300 HP of the Euro engine. While you are doing it consider some MSDS headers for a nice improvement More is ALWAYS better !

I'm still weighing options...I'm gonna research a bit more but if I decide the swap isn't worth it I think I'd like to sell the car as is (maybe minus the Recaro seats since those are pretty cool). Not 100% sure what I'm doing with it. The motor seems to run well and approx 105k miles.

Easiest swap is to find a good transmission and put it in the Euro.
Are you sure the Euro AT is bad, might be worth the time to drain and refill before dumping.

Thanks for the advice. Overall it is sounding like the swap will be more involved than I thought it might be.
I have not drained the tranny but it does have a pretty good leak and was about 2qts down. I filled it and that didn't make any difference. It will move in reverse but no forward gears apart from a little jump every now and again.

Please do a search about those symptoms! If I remember correct auto trans only working in reverse is usually a valve that can be changed without pulling the gearbox! You may be a lucky guy
