To the purest, there is only torque.
Torque is already included in the HP number, as HP is Torque-over-time.

But the time element applied to torque changes it significantly, and that is why there isn't only one measurement: there are two.

Since Kibort isn't here yet, I would like to throw down a challenge.

I challenge him to NOT say anything on this thread.

I bet he can't do it...

That would be impressive .

I'm going to sit this one out, but it looks like the same old battle lines are being drawn with the same points.

Purest are funny, aren't they?

Original Porsche Purest - A true Porsche has a flat air cooled 4
911 Purest - A true Porsche has a flat air cooled 6
Modern Porsche Purest - A true Porsche has a flat 6 in the rear
Ferrari Purest - Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines (spoken by Enzo himself)

Meanwhile my friend with a STOCK ZO6 Corvette, converted for track use (only mod is a roll cage) set a class record of 2.26.xx at Road America a few weeks ago. There are many cars in his class with a lot more torque.........didn't help them any

Na...looks like one side making cute little anecdotes while others are posting actual race results

Torque gets the car moving, if you have enough to spin the tires any more is useless. That is why torque is so important in drag racing, when you have insanely wide, very soft tires. You will never have that much traction in a street car.
The first 60-100 feet of a drag race means everything, where torque and awesome traction go hand and hand.

Torque is also great for cars with horrible gear ratios and / or people who hate shifting.

The most exhilarating cars I've ever driven are high revving, low torque Ferrari V8's.

I like sports cars, not tow vehicles

Had to think about this a few minutes but I have one question

If torque is already included in the HP # then how would you explain an engine with more TQ than HP?

This is how:

HP=(Torque * RPM)/5252

In this case I think gearing plays the biggest factor. Is it correct that you stay in gear while Rick shifts?

I start in 2nd gear & I think Rick does too...2nd gear is good to about 85mph in the Estate....I think Rick has 2.75 gearing..so his 2nd is good to about 75mph...

Of course the "rogerbox" has an advantage shifting gears....since you don't lift & L jet doesn't pull timing like the EZK does.....all of this give it an edge in drag racing.....

I'm also wondering where Kibort is..........................it never takes him this long...
