Detailed Instructions for Installing Rear Shoulder Seat Belt

I know there has to be something like this out there, but I just can't find something that is very specific (maybe with pictures). I have a 1987 928 S4 and from the threads I've seen it sounds like I should be able to install some rear shoulder seat belts (so I can install legal car seats for my kids. It sounds like this is anywhere from very simple to somewhat difficult

It sounds like lots of people have done it, but I can't find any good tutorials anywhere. Does anyone have any links that can help me along? Sorry, I really have search on this site a lot and generally through the other popular 928 sites. I'm probably just missing it.

I did mine and documented this. I left out the last step since I forgot where I uploaded the pics. Anyway, the last step is to bolt the seatbelt anchor onto the rear/C pillar.

Dont have pics, but....TYhere is a threaded fitting in the C pillar, on the underside, towards the rear - run your hand down the bottom face and you should feel the hole in the cover trim over the receiver. Thats the easy part. Here is where I get fuzzy, its been nearly ten years since I did it. You need to fit the front end of the shoulder belt to the fitting on the outside wall, and IIRC you need to remove the side trim to get at the bolt. This means you need to remove the seat back. Fold the seat back down, and you should see two bolts (mine were Philips head screws, I think I have heard or seen them as allen-head cap screws also). Undo these screws/bolts, and the outer end of the seat back can pivot upwards, around the inner pivot, then you can slide it outwards and the inner pivot will come out. In my 83, one inner nylon pivot had disintegrated, and had to be replaced, or glued back together.
NOTE that S4 and on may differ in this area (bolts on the inner end?)- you should always post your model year so we know what you should look for. Once the seat back is out, remove the squab, and you should be able to remove a couple of screws securing the outer trim panel and get at the front belt bolt. Remove the cover over the transmission hump for access to the inner belt fitting receiver.
I belive genuine inertia reel outer fiitings are NLA or $$$, and finding a generic small enough to fit is not easy, but this may be a rumour.

Thanks! Those are great tips. Doesn't look too bad, jsut a lot of steps and need to be careful with all the bolts, etc. I actually just picked up some belts off a 1989 S4, so I'm hoping they should do the trick. Sounds like they would since I have a 1987 S4.

I'll have to study this over and over again to make sure I have it all clear in my head before I mess with anything. If anyone else wants to post links to other tutorials, that'd be fine. I like to see as many descriptions and angles as possible. :)
