Remove right side fender
I suspect that this is a pretty simple topic but I've found too many times when something simple turns out to be not-so-simple.
In the process of getting my S4 back on the road I found that the guys who reupholstered the car removed and did not replace the fan control located in the pocket on the passenger side floor. I discovered it but not until after I cooked the cooling system for a while. I replaced the control and everything is fine except that the coolant level sending unit went south. I have a new sending unit but the pressure tank is located deep under the passenger side fender. It looks like the fender has to come off in order to get at the sending unit.
It appears that the fender is held in place by a series of bolts running from the dashboard area down to the front "bumper". I've been an engineer long enough to know that my brethren would not make it that easy. I'm sure that once I remove the bolts something else is going to jump out and say "Gotcha"!!
Could someone save me from myself?

It is not necessary to remove the fender which is good since that is a big job if you have never done it before since the rubberized undercoating hides the bolts near the door and glues the fender in place. I recommend that you replace the coolant tank if it looks like an original and do the hoses below it as well. Those plastic tanks only last 15-25 years
To remove the old tank you can cut it in pieces to get access to the two mounting bolts along the firewall. When putting in the new tank with new sender you may not be able to get both bolts in....

the coolant tank is not too bad to remove ,
Drain the radiator.
remove the aircleaner top and intake tube
Then get a 1/4 in drive and a swivel 10mm socket ,
remove the bolts holding the tank in,
then unscrew the hose clamp thats connected to the metal line under the tank leave the rubber hose connected to the bottom of the tank . and disconnect the hose from the metal line. remove the 2 vent lines on the top of the tank remove the sender wires,
slide the tank out .
When refitting you may need to put a new O ring in the cap for the sender ,
t has a flat rubber seal but an O ring will work just as well.
connect the rubber hose to the bottom of the tank and make sure the clamp is oriented so it can be tightened from underneath the car.
