Default turn signal combo switch needed; 1989 S4

turn signal combo switch needed; 1989 S4 with cruise. This is the FOUR stalk one.. Looked at 928 intl and ebay with no luck...

Broke the pin which makes so it cancels the turn signal for left turns during install a month or so ago of my 930 steering wheel. At least I think that is what happened. The 930 steering wheel round plastic thingy which has the protrusion to cancel stuck in too deep and had a line which looked to be made such to clip off so did that. Fits fine but I think I broke the portion of the combo switch when initially installed pre shortening it..

Are you sure it is not the horn contact part. It has the white portion that protudes towards the engine. If you do not locate it properly, at the 9:00 position with the wheels straight it will only cancel on one side or not where you expect it to.
To check, put the turn signal on, first left, turn the wheel all the way left you should hear two clicks. move the steering wheel back to center and see if it cancels. Do the same for the other side. Try with different amount of wheel turns and centering to see if that makes any difference.
If you have not installed the horn ring part correctly, you will only cancel on one side.
I hope that makes sense.

Mine broke (in use) four years ago. I managed to pull apart and repair with some eopxy and metal (I think). Sorry for being vague but it was a while ago and not a major issue so I can't remember the details.

Point is, it may be possible to repair yourself.

Best of luck,
Myles

If you can get a replacement white tab (if thats broken) or an internal wiper part (if the wings are broken) from any other year (with a 2 stalk or 3 stalk column switch) you can repair this.

Honestly its quite a pain to do - but it is far cheaper than new parts and the 4 stalk column switches are quite rare to find used...

You'll need to drill out the rivets and replace them with screws. This was not really intended to come apart - so be very careful as you take it apart and look at the config of everything as it comes apart...

It took me a long time to figure out how to put it back together... but its been reinstalled for ~3 years now & works great.

I did this on my GTS and it is documented here on rennlist

This combo switch is specific to 89 and I have two used and one new in stock.

There is a 2 stalk one that just got listed on ebay. I have a broken one from a 1990 that has the bottom left stalk broken, everything else on it works.
Let me know if you might be interested.
