Default What does that rolling **** do?

I just realized that there are two rolling ***** under the dashport of my 1988 928. I figured out that the one on the left dims the lights on the dashport, what does the one on the right do? Someone help me out please.

one dims the dash lights during the day(headlights off), the other dims the dash when the headlights are turned on.

On early cars one is the dash light dimer and the other is the intermittent wiper rate.

I thought the one on the right was interval delay wiper adjustment.

Intermittent wiper delay rate is correct. However, the two rheostats are different. There is a lot of resistance drop in the dash light rheostat. By passing it will increase the intensity of the dash lights.

I removed/dissected the light dimmer rheostat and gave a good abrasive cleaning. Now no 'choppy' function and the light intensity across the board has increased slightly, and this is good.
