Default Vacuum component needs ID

Some R+R revealed a small part that I have not a clue as to it's function.
It appears to have two vacuum nipples meant for rubber connectors.
Located under and external to the air filter box on the passenger side about 5 inches back and away from the throttle body. Here are two pics to help with the identifying. The photos are taken from the driver's side fender looking across the engine bay.
What is it? What is it's function and do I need to connect it to vacuum? Of note: I accidentally broke off the lower nipple. If I need this part, is it easy to remove? I could not figure out it's removal.
Please tell me what you know...

Thank You,

Allen

Most I encounter are busted off. Just connect the two vac lines that came off of it together and forget about it. I used to replace them but the cost of the valve just isn't worth it.

It is a temperature controlled vacuum switch.

OK. It's a vacuum switch. What does it control?
I have some other things to get from you, Roger so if this is useful and/or important, I will get one.
Cannot find the vacuum lines that went to it. Hmmmnnnn.............

Roger charges Sean 4X as much because Sean is so rich and Sean pays it because Roger is so lean?
