Blower Fan Motor Replacement

Greg , the R/H/D interior blower fan motor is a different size ( larger) than the L/H/D version , in fact everything is different , the outer housing & the fan wheel it self =all different

I have stripped the assembly down to just the motor, the commutator is worn, the shaft is worn, the brushes should be replaced. The motor was noisy due to slack in the shaft/bushing at one end.
I suppose with a lot of effort it could be rebuilt, I was going to swap in my motor from my 928 as it is much lower kms and is off the road till next year. However at some point I need a fix and new ones are NLA.
Cheers
Greg

Hi Bruce & Greg - I have a couple of RHD fan motors here so give me 24 hrs and I will see if I can find a good replacement motor.

Greg - I sell the diaphragms for the center & foot-well actuators for $55.95 each. I also sell the complete actuators for the re-circulation and defrost.

I put the Bosch number on the motor into Google and it seemed to come up as the same part no. for LHD and RHD. (If you want the Bosch no. I can get it for you.) I know that both through PET and Bruce that there is differences in the assembly with complete units but I wonder if the base motor is not the same and can it be sourced from Bosch?
Update, Bosch part 0 130 107 037

0 130 107 037 - never been able to buy the motor - also 0 130 107 036 either.
I have a lot of available alternatives I can compare once I strip down a RHD blower this evening.

Hi Greg , Matt Nicholson gave me a L/H/D 928/s/S4 interior blower fan unit ( snail shell) a couple of years ago & everything about it compared to the R/H/D is different , the Bosch blower motor itself , including the fan blades wheel is amazingly smaller in the in the L/H/D unit as compared to the R/H/D unit , meaning its output would also be correspondingly be smaller as well
So with the standard motor being a bit larger in the R/H/D unit , the aftermarket motor that Roger sells ( may ) fit in easier into the R/H/D fan housing ?
Like Roger , we had to solve this problem years ago with the R/H/D version , but with another even slightly larger electric motor( more air flow) , which interestingly has gone NLA by the manufacturer since & the remaining stock of new ( slightly larger ) R/H/D fan motors we use are very limited

Hi Bruce and thanks for the info. I haven't called Matt as yet, let's see what Roger comes up with......
An opinion if you don't mind. The air cond on this car worked O.K but there was definite warm air mixing with the cold through the central vent. It wasn't too bad and sometimes it was completely cold, my suspicion about this problem is it is caused by the recirculated vac unit. It had a puncture/tear that lead to diminished vacuum in the system and this is why the temp would slightly fluctuate It would from memory only be warmish at the top of the vent. The bottom was cold.
I have now checked all vac actuators and on both my cars the recirculating vac actuators are crook. I also found out (I don't have PET currently) that MY84 and MY85 are different in the actuator and rubber diaphragm. I am also going to get the air emptied and then remove the whole unit to clean it as the evaporator is very dirty and I suspect partially blocked. This is a pretty big job in the end

Hello. New member from Norway with 89 S4.
Bought a new fan motor and harness from Roger. Mounted like the instruction said. Problem: **** on 1,2 it works normal on 3,4 the fan goes for full speed, with the ignition off and the keys out still full speed. Need to take the fuse or relay to stop it. With the relay out the fan goes normal in 1,2,3 not working in 4 and the defroster working. Hope to get som help here.

Here's a tip... when you mount the new motor in the housing and check for clearance/free spinning of the squirrel cage, make sure it's oriented correctly, i.e. with the fan facing down.
Why, might you ask? Because the motor shaft has a slight amount of in/out play, and it just may be enough to make a difference. With the fan facing up, the shaft shifts towards the motor, but facing down, it shifts towards the housing opening, taking up that clearance that you thought you had between the squirrel cage and the edges of the opening in the housing.
I got to hear what the fan rubbing on the housing sounds like when everything is all back together.

I replaced the commutator and brushes in in my 87 S4 R.H.D. HVAC blower motor about 10,000k'ms ago and it is working perfectly so far. Here is a link to the post I made about it https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...or-repair.html
I also found that if you pull out the recirculating flap box and replace the seal for the flap, this will help prevent warm air getting in when it shouldn't. It's a pita job that requires cutting open the box.
