Default Escort Passport IQ

Been enjoying this cool new toy for a few days here .... and it really is spectacular. Not enough data so far to judge effectiveness, but it sure rocks for usability; limited false warnings; advanced features; GPS data; shifter connectivity and general ease and enjoyment.

You may want to go here and ask the experts about it, it did not get very good reviews over there.

If you got it from Escort you have 30 days to send it back, so you have not lost any thing.

LOL!! Why would I return it? I think it is excellent! I looked at that forum and saw only one point of criticism ... that the "Spectre" can detect if you have this radar detector on. That is not a factor to me.

Maybe they improved it, when it first came out the test showed very limited range and very poor RD performance, does not matter to me a bit, just trying to help you out.

Thanks for your help I would return it if I thought it wasn't worthy ... but at least so far (a few days in) it has picked up what i would expect, and excluded what I would expect as well. And it has AMAZING usability.

Many people think a detector that sits there quietly, is somehow inferior. They expect it to chirp and blip and whirr all the time. I've owned and loved an SR-1 for over 10 years with shifters, and have zero tickets as a result. It goes off when there is a threat, and I respond immediately.

I love my 9500Ci.

I've just taken a very long trip with my Bel RX65pro and the Passport IQ side-by-side, and I have to say, my findings are perplexing. In only a very few instances, did the 2 units warn me anywhere near the same.

Mostly, the IQ warned first, the RX a good few seconds later. BUT: there were many MANY hits that one warned and the other stayed completely silent.

Generally speaking, I'd say the RX was by far the superior detector. It warned me of every verifyable patrol and only falsed in POP when near cell towers etc.

The IQ drove me nuts till I turned off POP. After that, it just didn't warn me in many cases when the RX did, of Ka and K hits that were in fact real.

It became crystal clear to me with some trial, that unless the detector is 100% unobstructed, neither works. Period. Wiper blades and passengers and cargo caused both these units to give bizarre results. I had to mount both very low for many reasons.

So, basically, you are saying the old Valentine isn't that bad after all...

Just pulling your leg!!! Thanks for the review. The Passport IQ sounded interesting, but not so much for the price and after your review.

The V1 I had worked great once I mounted it in the correct spot, on the second shelf if the bedroom closet.

Send that back and try a 9500ix, the GPS filtering is really worth the money, or go all out and get the 9500Ci.

As far as using two RD's together, that will not work with the units you tried, not sure about the Escort, but the V1 leaks pretty bad and will set off another detector.
The only ones you can do that with are the ones that are RDD prof.

Sorry it did not work out for you.

I was debating getting either the IQ or the 9500ix for my wife. I am a die-hard V1 fan, but the false warnings make it tough to interpret for the inexperienced. My understanding was that the IQ and the 9500ix were the same except for the obvious map/GPS difference. I decided against the IQ because most people felt that the GPS portion of the unit was not nearly as good as the latest Garmin units. Another worry was that, based on my readings, the learning portion of the Passports might be fooled if a trooper set up in an area that was already learned as a false signal. We have a couple of areas where there are multiple false signals, but speed traps will sometimes be set up there.

Nope, different feed horns, as the 9500Ci has a different one from the iX.

About the GPS, that is exactly what the GPS is good for, unless there are four different freq's in use the GPS units will alert to a new signal.

I was a V1 fan boy for a long time, to me there is no comparison with a modern GPS RD, the range is as good or better with the Ci and no false alarms.

I have the iQ now and I actually prefer the GPS over my Nuvi in a great many ways.

Detection seems ok...that is about all I can say. Mine does not false as much as my V1's do...

Still getting to know and understand the unit. Got it last Friday...
