The project's home base will most likely travel to country to where is makes the most sense. My guess is it will not have a home base in the physical sense.

BTW, think about penciling in Sharks in the Mountains 2012 for an appearance with the car...we could let everyone take turns loosening and tightening the lug nuts (or something simple, just tossing that quick thought out), or wiping the underneath etc. so they can say they worked on it too!!

Jim I can volunteer to provide limited legal guidance and, of course, thoughts and opinions on the car itself from my perspective as a fellow OB guy.

As to the legal issues, just some high level thoughts - the suggestion above about a charitable status for achieving deductions on any money (or time) donations is a good one. This project would probably qualify, under an educational purpose and/or a historic preservation purrpose. However, some things would likely need to be done first.

For instance, a charitable entity under appropriate state law may need to be created, with the stated purpose of the entity clear - to educate people about and provide historical preservation to this special car. I believe the title to the car itself may need to be transfered to this new entity (again, some of this will depend on state law, and I don't know what state will apply). The entity will need officers and/or directors (although probably not necessary for them to be local). Those people will have a fiduciary duty to keep good records, file returns, and so forth. A TIN will need to be obtained, tax forms filed (depending on amounts to be raised), and there are requirements to acknowledge receipt of donations that will need to occur on a regular basis - lots of little administrative things like that.

In addition, since the efforts surrounding this car will frequently involve using the Porsche name, including fundraising or sponsorship efforts, the Porsche people will likely want to approve use of their trademarks for this purpose - in other words, they may want to sign-off on this project (and a good way to initiate a discussion with them about some sponsorship $$). It would be worth running it up the flag-pole and having something for the file in case they later raise a stink.

Other random thoughts would be to get the various 928 vendors to sponsor time/$/materials, setting different levels - gold/silver/bronze. Same for regular folks like us too. Again, good records will need to be kept.

Anyway, those are just a few random thoughts about this potential effort. So, think about this and we can talk if you want in more detail (you have my #).

Just Friggen amazing. I wish I lived closer as I would love to go through that CIS system A to Z and get it running perfectly for ya. Not in the cards, though. If you really have a CIS disaster, another choice might be to take your CIS system off the car and send to to someone with a running CIS car who knows the system. They could get the system working on thier car and then send it back to you. There would still be a bunch of tuning on your end after, but it might make a better start.
