I just think it's cool that these may be the oldest pictures of Porsche first "production" 928!

I will check with Porsche to see if the have any record of these photos and/or license number.

Reminds me of my chiffon '82. Cool stuff, Jim.

Man, even the factory painted the bumper beading and the lock cylinder was all shiney.

I keep seeing that nasty crease on the bottom of the door into the rear wheelwell, and how would Porsche ever let a picture out like that?

Then... ancient technology... scanned magazine picture with a thumbprint crease in the paper!

Jim, keep up the great work and the fabulous documentation of your project.

Thanks Dr. Bob! I'm gonna have to chase down that hit-n-run magazine crease.

I have a feeling the bumper beading was an afterthought. There are pictures of a few very early cars with the beading, where the front bumper does not line-up properly. I suspect they figured they needed the beading, then corrected the bumper fit in a separate step.

This is pure speculation on my part, though.

Default Update, mild preservation

Pulled #1 out of it's slumber for a little preservation R&R.

Needed to get some good rubber (that holds air) underneath it.
Lugnuts were heavily corroded, got off all but one "the easy way". The last one however took a little "surgery" w/a carbide bur. Lugnut and stud toast, but saved the Phone Dial wheel.

Removed front 'S' spoiler also (I don't like non-original equipment... so it had to go)

Drained coolant from engine... bright green and clean. No signs of corrosion (no charcoal /black color), but hard to say until I test coolant PH level.

Pulled spark plugs (clean and even looking), inspected cylinder bores (dry, no coolant present)...
Sprayed in some fogging oil and gave the crank a slight turn. Broke free very easily. More fogging oil and got it to spin nicely. Great news!

Next up is to inspect CIS, drain oil (and analyze), flush brake/clutch hydraulics.

So much fun to work on this historic piece! All kinds of interesting pre-production things throughout.
Some characteristics unique, even compared to the #6 car!

Slowly turning the pages of a hisorical book. One at a time. Lifting one at a time, making sure none are tuck together.

Or, peeking under the edge of a baby diaper, knowing without a doubt that it's perfectly clean, nothing to worry about.

Jim,
Best news since my last update...
I have a new right fender ready to replace the sightly mangled original (will save it... I'm saving everything)

Also, recently acquired a fair amount (read majority) of NOS window trim.
So now I have new, most of the lamp lenses, ext. trim, and rubber seals.

Still looking for NOS early door primary seals, which has proved difficult (since they're NLA superseded)

Hope to have time in early 2014 to go thru the CIS and primary electrics, and get this old girl running!

Thanks for checking in!
