Default analog clock on the cheap

For my dad's birthday I asked to borrow his 928 so I could do some maintenance on it for him, like oil change and MBS fix. But little did he know I had a bonus up my sleeve...

I found this really sleek looking VDO clock in a Volvo at the junk yard. Of course, it didn't work, so I replaced a blown resistor (and the two capacitors just for good measure) and it works nicely now. Then I popped out the clock trim piece and removed the LCD clock. Let me just say, that LCD clock is cheesy.

It took some crafty modding, and some scrounging in the garage, but it came together nicely. I'm really happy with it. More importantly, Dad likes it! It only cost me about $10! (And a day of work )... Sorry for the poor cellphone pic, if I can I'll take a better pic, which shows the clock itself.

Maybe it's just the picture, but that looks very aftermarket to me. It looks like you did a very nice job on the install, but the clock doesn't appear to fit.

That's a nice way to put it.

Hope your dad likes it (for your sake)!

My wife borrowed my car (not the 928) while I was in Colorado and her dog vomited in it.

Hard to tell from the photo how it actually looks. Maybe you can take a frontal picture.

I didn't think he asked for feedback, just wanted to show what he did with his spare time.

I prefer to do other things, but to each their own, right? I see no reason in putting down his choice.

Dads are the coolest because no matter what you get or do for them, they appreciate it almost as much a moms. It's a good thing you didn't do this to your older brother's car.

Ironically, that clock looks similar to my soon to be setup
