P.S. OH! Yes, and also the gaps on each side of the hatch which are not the same, which also likely means something serious, especially for a car with so few miles as alleged. JF

Jarrod, I don't have anything hurtful to say about this car that is not obvious. I suppose My latest comments are more about the seller than about the car. The car is what it is and is not what it used to be, from what I can tell from the earlier pictures and the later pictures.

All I suggest is that anyone who would be interested in this car should put thier money where they want, but only based on their own determination about the car and not in reliance on ANYTHING the seller has to say about it. So far I think just about everything he is saying about the car might not be true, at least from the standpoint of information important to a buyer.

I too think the car might still be worth around $20,000 or more, but I don't think it is going to sell for anywhere near that in this market. I wonder how the "bidding" is going? Have to check. He should be about due for his $18,500 bid, I think.

I checked the bidding on eBay and see that the seller, er, bidder, may be way ahead of me. The bid of 17,600 yesterday was being held by a bid of 18,500 yesterday at about 1:15 PDT. Then the bid was forced to the 18,500 amount authorized yesterday at 1:15, with a bid of 18,450 today at about 9:42 am. Then, within a few seconds the bid jumped to 19,500. I guess the bidder's timing is a little tighter on this listing than I expected, perhaps because it is only for 3 days.

Now, I suspect that the bid will stay at the 19,500 level for the rest of the holiday weekend until the listing closes early on the fourth, likely hoping that the bait will bring in a nice catch.

I saw that car when the owner lived next door to Schocki in Wichita Falls.
One of the best 928's I have ever seen - perfection at that time.

I think the seller has this car postured for sale at 19,600. Any takers on this forum at that price?

IF:
  • It checks out and the rear bumper cover damage was indeed limited to cosmetic damage only
  • No other signs of accident damage, clear carfax/autocheck etc.
  • Condition is as it appears, i.e. very good and capable of being improved to concours level
  • No significant deferred maintenance
Then, IMHO, if I were in the market it would simply be a matter of confirming the above through a solid PPI and writing the check at $19,600.

Bottom line - this is a very desirable car:
  • It's one of 65 North American GT's from 1989, which many consider to be the most desirable year and the ultimate performance 928 (I myself would rather have an 89 than my 90, all other things being equal)
  • It has much more extensive leather options than commonly found, is the only Lobster Red interior GT that I've ever seen, and has heated sport seats on top of all that - good grief that combination is sweet!
  • It has some tasteful mods, yet could be relatively easily returned to bone stock for the purist
  • Mileage is still relatively low

I suppose someone could hold out for a no rub strip GT or one in something other than white, but to find another car with a comparable set of desirable attributes, I think you'll be waiting for a long time and potentially writing a much larger check (the green/tan GT with ~ 300 miles comes to mind).

Disclaimer - I don't have a vested interest in this offering, just giving my two cents.

I agree. If all checks out it should be a $25K car anyways. So at $20K it's a hell of a deal.
