Jerry,
I didn't pick up on it, but you may be right. Or the bids could have been a single real bidder that slowly walked the bid up and gave up when he or she decided the reserve was too high. Shill bidding doesn't work very well unless there is someone that you are bidding against.

I can see shill bidding being used to run the price up artifically in hopes of getting some idiot to jump in and buy it at some inflated price. If that doesn't work, it is kind of like fishing with bait. You don't always get a bite.

It might also be a basis to tell others in a local market perhaps that it was bid for 19,500 and didn't sell. Here let me show you the eBay bid history. Why don't you give me a mere 21,000 and we will make a deal.

What do you think?

Given it's a GT with a very rare and unique color combo (probably the only lobster red interior with sport seats as a bonus), relatively low miles, tasteful mods, and apparent excellent condition, I bet it gets re-marketed in the mid-upper 20's.

From Chuck Z's registry:

http://www.928registry.org/1989-928/1989-928GT-25.htm

From my archives accumulated from publicly posted pictures, the smaller ones being from ~ 2004 and the larger ones from early 2009:

To take a que from the "What's my Car Worth" show

In terms of condition...rating from 1 being perfect to 6 being a basket case.. I think this one rates a 2 (due to repaint of the rear bumper).

In terms of collectibility (928 market only) ...rating from A being most desirable to F too many to count... I think this one rates an "A" due to the low production number (109)..and being 1 of 16 from Canada... Options also make it unique...no rear air, and heated sport seats.

I still think this one should come in around $25K....$15 k would be for a 90 or 91GT in similar condition..but not nearly as collectible/rare/unique

Not that I am biased at all ...LOL $15k for this GT would be a steal...even in today's market..

Ebay is a pretty wide open market and it didn't sell for 19,500, whatever the worth was of that bid, shill or not. It will be difficult to ever tell what this car sells for in any private sale, but I'll bet it never sells for as much as $20,000 on eBay.

Nice pics Jarrod... looking closer at those pics....it is full leather.. and the digital dash does appear to be in KM (original)... If he has the original steering wheel, CS rims, GT shifter...that would just round out the full package....

Heck..if this had no sunroof and no side moldings...it would probably be sitting in my garage .

Does anyone know if such a beast exists..89GT..no sunroof, no rear air, no side moldings, heated sport seats???

Do we really know what happened on Ebay? My guess is that lowmiler got a hold of the seller...offered just a bit more than what was bid..and will be flipping it for 25K plus shortly..

Speaking of which... What's up with the hose leading from near the passenger fuel rail...forward and over the air tube?....diversion of the rubber line under the intake from the MAF boot??

Nice Pics Jarrod, that's a beauty!!

Looks like the car also has the Devek front sway bar. (Still in the their trademark blue) as well as their crossbrace in the engine compartment either powdercoated or painted red.

Camcovers and intake look to be redone as well.

To some, the lack of digital dash and air bag is the plus that separates the '89. I can't tell, but if it is digital as you say, it has been changed and I don't know how that could exist. The black pod is weird.

All '89's have the digital dash, no? Agreed that no airbags is more desirable though I much prefer the feel of an airbag wheel in your hands, compared to the cross-section of the pre-90 wheels.

I had this car on my ebay watchlist. This note showed up a bit before the auction ended.

eBay Note: The seller lowered the reserve price to US $19,501.00.Learn More.

The last bid was $19,500.
