Tim ponders a 928 - Needs advice
I have a 1992 GTS Automatic that I have acquired in auction in Japan. Service book shows regular oil changes, but no major work. (e.g. timing belt is original). Mileage is 37,000mi (59,000km) (Not a joke). My Japan broker is a reputable guy but cannot get anyone to measure crank endplay, because untitled/auctioned vehicles in Japan are anathema to workshops. All they have been able to get done is to show me flexplate distortion as found (3.5mm). No dimensioning measurement of crank endplay is possible, nor is oil analysis, or dissection of current oil filter to see if the dreaded TBF particles are present.
Everything about older cars involves risk (and fun). I have done two 968's from Japan to Canada as a learning experience and had a lot of fun, including periodic ventilation of my wallet, but now want to play with a beefier car.
Question; (and no guarantees are expected) is this a feasible candidate, given the relatively low mileage?
Thx/Tim

Depends on the money --- how much?
Then again, the 400 lb gorilla is that endplay figure.
If a shop went 90% of the way, find another, pay several hundred and get the last 10%.
There has got to be some way to do it.
I've read of them failing at 41K or so.

From all I have read, TBF can occur in any auto of the later years with any mileage. Yours being low mileage is a good thing if the pressure is regularily released and there is a couple new clamp options for extra piece of mind.
First thing is to get a new belt before it is driven!
There are a few of us here in southern Alberta that would help you out when the car arrives.

Pics ? What was the purchase price of this GTS? We have recently witnessed one good looking 1995 dark blue GTS with 34K that sold at a Japan auction for only $ 6735.87. From what I have gathered from the link below, it's relatively easy, and not to much $ to import these cars into Canada. Not the same can be said for importing into the US that will set you back appox $ 15,000 more. If I could buy 95 GTS's for that kind of money, with that kind of mileage, and not have to pay the ridiculous US import fees, I would take a dozen of them with or without a motor.https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...n-japan-2.html

If you're already acquired it, then its time to import it and get the measurement done locally, or do it yourself.
Hopefully you picked it up cheap enough that the risk of needing a used block from another S4/GT/GTS was acceptable.

If you want to see pics (and I have a bunch) email me at T dot Webber at Telus dot net. I would like to know the exterior color. Inside is lurid Magenta (known as lipstick, I am told)

You don't know what color it is, or you don't know the paint code?
Send me a representative pic to roberte01 at gmail com and I'll post it here.
