Thinking about this car. Is this a show stopper like the 32V? Anyone know the car?

From what little I know about these cars from reviewing these posts - I have an 83 - the engine in this car is the 16 valve non-interference version, so a broken timing belt doesn't necessarily mean bent valves like in the 32V versions. I will defer to the more knowledgeable members like Merlin, but this one may be salvageable...

I bought a 951 with a broken timing belt for a song. Took the head off and it only had one bent valve. replaced it, ground a new valve seat and the car has been perfect now for years.
The 16v 928 heads are the same basic set up as the 944/951. Actually a pretty durable platform. Just kinda depends on how much damage was done when the belt broke.....and your skills on repairing it. It's not really hard work, just one bolt at a time. Most likely just valve work. Of course there is always the off chance of a broken piston, bent rod, etc. Which is usually not the case, but does happen. Just wont know until you take it apart to find out.
You can run a compression test if you can get it to crank to find out how many cyl are bent, then stick a bore scope in the spark plug hole to take a look for obvious damage first. That might give you some idea.

Semantics really! Sure we all know they are rubber belts and not metal chain! They do the same function and to the average car owner that has not pulled the cover off to look they are synonymous.
Honestly ins situations like this you kinda want a clueless owner. You might find out it's a blown fuse and everything else is fine!

Exterior looks good. He is looking best offer, so you may be able to get a really nice deal there. I think those early cars are non interference, but I'll yield to the more knowledgeable members.

New timing belt is a good idea on most used 928 anyway, but sitting for a year combined with does not run so you can't tell what other problems it may have could be pesky.
If the paints original and interior is nice, it won't sit much longer after being posted here for $1400 obo.

Sounds to me like all it needs is a tb/wp job. It is a non interferience engine so the fix is easy. The 84s were nice cars. The vice squad had an awsome 84 928 auto that the used for years. It was worked on at the same shop as mine. It was nice...

Thanks. I was hoping the TB/WP would be the possible fixes. Shipping for me will be 800-900 so I'm in low. Upped the offer a smidge. no bite
