The shop quote of $900 is probably what they charge for a t-belt/waterpump it clearly doe not anticipate any valve repair/ head removal. The car is in S F area...maybe Bill Ball would help you throw on a belt....then you could drive it home !!!!

That would be great if he takes my offer. I would love to take the trip to SF again. Last year about this time , I was on train to ND to pick up an 82 (Ethre bought it). I passed. Then flew to Seattle the next month to pick up the Black Pearl and drove it home. I have to do 4 months of Military duty this year, so taking more time from work will not be possible. I would have to have it shipped.
It would be great to meet Bill and some of the SF crew . Maybe I'll contract a rare disorder that is only treatable by Dr. Ball (A ride in Bills car.)

I'd be glad to help out, but I'm not sure how this transaction would work. If you buy the car non-running, who knows how it will run after a TB job? The shop quote is low - a teaser. Figure $1500-2000 around here for a proper TB job. It's 8-10 hours labor plus parts. It would need WP, probably cam and oil pump gears, main roller, possibly idler, tensioner rebuild kit, tensioner arm bushings, possibly a tensioner shoulder bolt as well as the belt. I assume the WP seized, but it could be something else. Hope that the WP impeller has not done any damage to the block. Then after that is done, you're betting everything else is OK for a trans-con drive. What are the odds? We've done this before and everything more or less worked out - Heinrich from Seattle bought a car here with seized WP and we had a TB party. Nicole graciously offered her garage and we towed the car a few miles to her place. Heinrich brought a friend and they did most of the work. The car had a cat fire on the way back to Seattle.

Thanks for the comments and advise. This is probably what would happen to me. Shipping it may be the answer then digging in once its here. I have to get him to sell it to me first
