Default Waterpump damage to the block, How bad is too bad?

I pulled the h2o pump a minute ago, three years old not many miles. It had started to weep a bit. To my horror the impeller has migrated into the block. Question is, at what point is the carving on the block a death sentence. Can I just refit the new water pump and call it good? What are the problems related to this?
Am I f*&ked? Thanks for any responses, I'll be weeping.

I was reading Dwayne's write up on Virginia's repair using Greg Brown's Kit, it seems I'm not dead yet. Just how much damage is acceptable before repair is required?

Picture?

The clearance between the pump and the block is very tight. Somewhere between .010" to .025", depending on the "stack-up" of tolerance.

So, if you can see that the impeller touched the block, but not really "feel" the damage with your fingernail, you should be fine. If there is just damage on one side...you might be ok. If there is a groove that you can catch your fingernail on...you might want to take the time to fix the block.

The tool use is free, for all Rennlisters. I collect $200 to pay Steve Hattori back for making the inserts and to pay for the drill, taps, and hardware...so it is very reasonable to do the repair.

Brian,
Sorry to hear about the pump. From my records looks like a new Laso but with the metal impeller.
Do you have pictures? Did it have the extra bush on the shaft?

Roger IT'S NOT ONE OF YOURS! Sorry to shout but I don't want him to catch any grief. Roger I'm just getting to install the one from you (NEW Lasso). Greg the PO had installed this maybe three years ago and was a rebuilt unit, not more than 15-20,000 miles. I guess it was fortunate that it began weeping the littlest bit and I was watching or it could have been much worst. GregBBRD thanks for that info, I spoke to Dave Chamberlain and he offered a solution using a two part epoxy. He's had good results on several cars. I'll let you all know how it works. I might just have to mill/ shim the block but try this first. Anyone familiar with PC-7?

Brian,
You had me worried as I was sure the one I supplied was a later Laso. Greg is the master at knowing how to fix the block if needed so you are in good hands with his advice.

Greg,
Not seen one as yet - I hope never either. Plastic impeller also helps on the newer pumps.

Roger
