Buying my 1st 928 this week

He said he was surprised at how small it was inside..... Then it dawned on me that EVERY time I told him to go drive my car, he would refuse to. I don't think he's driven one until now.

Drifting
I had the pleasure of driving both of my 928's from Chicago to California and back, including driving across west Texas at 120+ for a few hours. They are wonderful cars for road trips. Did get a little harry once in the Sierra Nevada in a major winter storm on summer tires, but I was much younger then.
Enjoy the trip and take many more in the car.

If you talk to him again, make sure he knows that it's okay to move the seat back on his own car.

Good morning I'm up and feeling great in Ontario Oregon. Back was a little soar yesterday but that may have been too much "lumbar".
Everything went well with the purchase at the bank and the ALOT at the DMV but before starting the 2200 drive, a turned the corner went down the street and into Griot's Garage. It was that close to the DMV!
So it's 1:30 and I'm here to meet Richard Griot but first about 5 guys walk in the show room. They are from the call center! They are the guys I've talked to for years and now I get to put a name with a face.
Then it's time to meet Richard... what a nice "car" guy! His new facility is 44, 000 sq. ft. and gave me a tour of his private collection and work shop. Awesome!! He must have had more than 6 Porsches including a couple of race cars that he drives. You gotta understand something, I've been a customer for 10 years and even had a "Griot Garage" so to meet Richard and hear his stories was quite a thrill. Thanks Richard it really was a treat for me!
90 minutes later, I'm on the road in my new 928 and the car runs well! Ha s a few issues... fuel guage only measures 3/4 when full and I don't want to run out of gas out here! Stereo sounds like all treble. Could be operator error (me). Lots of road noise. Probably old Kumho's. Interior is black and in good shape. Leather is gray and feels good. Everything appears to work. Steve gave me a book he prepared with service receipts along with an old campaign poster and Chistopher mag introducing the car 25 years ago.
Many thanks to my friends along the way: Tom- for the tip about troopers in Ontario, I'm there now. Sean- for your help on the phone yesterday. Steve- for making the transaction painless and Chuck for finding this car!

Griot's is a great place to check out.. they have cars and coffee the first Saturday of each month. For a while there, Richard Griot would invite the PCA club to facility (when it was in Fife) and then take everyone on a bus over to his house on Gravelly Lake. I could live in his garage . Puts all his cool stuff to use in his place.. air powered garage doors, ..in the floor spot llights under the lift..fancy tiles floors... etc etc.. cool guy and cool stuff..
Safe drive back and look forward to more road reports...

Stopped for the night in Green River, UT. Car's running great. I'm getting 23+ mpg at good speed and in the mountains. I only know that because of my fuel guage issue. No I didn't buy the car for mpg reasons but I just met an older car guy in the parking lot who was excited about getting 24 in his new GM SUV. Well, he's doing a bucket wash in the parking lot so I introduce him to Griot's Garage ... Under Carriage Cleaner. I've been taking pics but I can't seem to get them from my I-phone to this thread. Where's my teenager when I need him? I still have two more days of driving so maybe I'll get it figured out. I think I need Dyna Mat and tires!

If interested, get off I70 at exit 31 in Colorado and give me a call at 970 243 8513, if after 8:00 am or 243 3658 if before. We'll be up around 6 am so no problem for an early visit.

Best way to buy a car. The excitement and anticipation of traveling to the car is a lot of fun, then the return trip home in your new toy is the absolute high. Of course all my trips like this have turned out well. I am sure there are some other guys who have not been so lucky.

i bought mu car this way.. not as long of a trip... but similar... I had a 15 hour drive home...did it all in one shot..
I was paranoid for a while, getting nervous about every squeek, etc... but then i relaxed and had a great time.

Jerry-thanks for the offer. Let me check my maps and I'll get back to you. Raining now
Mike-the pics are funny. I thought the dash looked blue but it's really black and the leather looks white but its gray. I was happier with I saw it in Seattle.
I've stayed at a Holiday Inn Express the last two nights and I don't feel any smarter. I'm thinking about asking for a refund.
Time to hit the road open road!
