Default 82 928 Headlights Pop-Up but don't come on

The headlights on my 82 928 Auto come up properly and lock, but do not come on. I have checked the fuse and it is fine with power on both sides of the fuse holder. Further troubleshooting tips are greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a search?

This is a common problem, that's why I ask.

Is there play in your ignition switch?
After the car starts, turn the key back until it seats against the notch. Just gentle so you dont shut the car off.

Could be a worn out ignition switch.
Happened with my 85

Here's the diagnostics to date:

Bulbs are good
Fuses are good
No power at any of the four fuses (I was in error on my initial posting)
Removed the relay, cleaned it (there was a fair amount of crud); replaced the relay, but still no power at the fuses (lights don't come on)

Thoughts?

Verify voltage and ground at the bulbs, work backward from there.

What you describe sounds a lot like when my headlamp relay failed.

+1 on the ignition switch. I have the same issue. If I don't manually return the ignition switch to run the headlights will come up but not turn on.

The ignition switch was replaced about 2 years ago. Is there a way to bypass the relay to check to see if there's power at the fuses/headlights? I would prefer not to spend $125 for a headlight relay if I don't need one. Or is there any way to test the relay itself?

Thanks

I fought that problem for 2 weeks after doing my fuse panel r&r. Turned out I had the relays switched. The earlier cars has a relay for the motors and one for the lights. They look the same but one of them has an extra pin.

Good luck,
