Which S4 caliper rebuilt kit have you used? Stoptech vs Brembo
Hello Guys
A while back I had to change my rear calipers on my 88 S4 due to the corrosion issue. I end up buying a used set of rear calipers from a 94 GTS since the rebuilt kit is a lot cheaper for the 89+ calipers, and these did not have the corrosion issue.
I was recommended by my vendor to buy the seal and boot kit from "ZECKHAUSEN RACING". When I got the kits, there is two thing I noticed. One is that the dust boot is colored gray and the original ones are colored black, interestingly the original ones feel a lot stronger compared to the gray ones. Also, the gray ones do not say anything about Brembo, it only says the size, for example 30mm and a part number of 750.99001.
The second thing I noticed is that the sealing ring also does not have the color marks like the original ones did. The original sealing rings have the color marks of 3 white stripes and one red stripe.
Unfortunately I damaged some of the gray dust boots while I was installing them. they just developed a tiny tear while I was trying to level them in their groove. Their just too soft.
I decided to buy some dust boots and one sealing ring from PARAGON Racing since they were close by.
To my surprise when I got my package today, is that the new dust boots are black and have the designation Brembo on them with part number 20 4872 41 for the 30 mm ones, also the sealing ring has the correct color mark.
Now I want to know which kit have you guys used and what is your experiences.
Personally I think I should buy a complete set of sealing rings and dust boot from Paragon and throw the "ZECKHAUSEN RACING" ones away, or return them.
Thanks
Ali
Edit: Seems like the gray dust boot and sealing ring with no color marks are made by Stop-tech, which should explain the problems I'm having.

I used Brembo seals/boots and hard-lines (to join the caliper halves) on my 89's calipers.
Bought locally from a brake specialist who carries Brembo bits. (actually, I got the hard lines for the front calipers from Porsche via Roger - the Brembo dealer couldn't find the part number

I've got the older, pre- '89 calipers on mine. When I "rebuilt" them, I only bought the pressure seals from paragon. I don't see a point in replacing the pistons unless there is something obviously wrong with them.

This is an issue of quality...

Seems like the stuff that's sold by ZECKHAUSEN RACING is made by stop tech.
Looks like I have to buy the actual Brembo set from Paragon.....

(I placed the order once I'd pulled the old seals off and read the part numbers off the dust boots).

When I did mine last year I bought four complete $et$ at the Porsche dealer and Brembo quality is what you want. No experience with stop-tec or alternatives but I prefer quality products. Especially when it comes to wheels, brakes, etc.

Does anyone have dust boot part numbers of their original calipers?
The old ones I pulled out of the caliper do not say Brembo, its BC112704. The ones I got from Paragon say Brembo 20 4872 40.
