VA too, and tightening.

Just added an S4 cat to a Euro S car.
Ditched headers. Has enough power anyway.
Gonna get as close to compliant as possible. Will pass most places, so long as they don't try to match part numbers with years.

By holding back highway funds as an example, the fed can (if it so decides) leverage the states to enforce fed EPA rules to whatever level they want. Nice strategy for driving clunkers off the road.

It's not like you have to throw the cat away...they last forever...even longer if you take them off to 'rest' for a couple years between, uh, tests.

It takes <30 minutes to swap one for a X-pipe.

I also agree. X-pipe cats are a non-resstricting, environmentally friendly solution. I hate emissions laws and idiot hippies more than most people here, but even I use the cats. It's a small loss that makes everything much better for everyone else. You will never notice a loss of a few hp when your beast is putting down ca. 290

+1. Get an X-pipe and high-flow cats.

But taking it off will definitely gain you some "seat of the pants" hp. That's because the added noise will fool you into believing you are going faster. Try it with a RMB - the effect is similar.

+1 on the RMB. I feel like I'm flying even when getting passed, by Kia SUVs

I took the innards out.
I didn't feel much of a difference whatsoever. The exhaust was a bit louder with a different tone. But seat of the pants feel, nothing significant.
Hardly worth it.

The cat converter matrix core helps create laminar flow inside the exhaust. Gut it and you get turbulence that reduces flow.

I just made that up.

Or maybe you read a good BOOK on the subject.

FWIW, id buy that. Any change in diameter in plumbing, and then back again in a short space, has gotta hurt flow.

There is a company in Germany that replaces the ceramic cats with metal cats in the same housings. Then they dyno tune the car. The result is a better emissions class (less registration tax), and up to 30 additional hp after the dyno tuning. Owners have reported a slightly raspier exhaust tone.

Must be Liphardt I guess: http://www.automobiltechnik-gbr.de/3.html

But I highly doubt the gain in HP. They simply take the old ceramic monoliths out and replace them. You have to send, or take the old cat to them and they weld them in.
Their cats will also eliminate the need for an AP and all attached tubes.

Not when a PO welded it to the rest of the exhaust
