i found my sanity, i took someone for a test drive today in my car, as i looked at his mx5, all i could think of is " am i crazy".
To ensure i would not get this idea again, i ordered some new bilsteins and new 19" ps2's for the 19" wheels.
will post pics once the wheels are on.

Did you ever get a chance to get the crank shaft end play checked ?

I did the diy on it and everything was good, once i got it home from my 750 mile trip, from Tucson to Odessa. I found very little play, it came out to .18mm. I did loosen the clamp and then tightend it back to 65ft/lbs. when i first loosened the clamp it moved about 2.2mm, so it was wise of me to have done this, as everyone is correct on the bearing issue.
I was intending to check it every six months to see if the extra clamp torque is going to work well or I would have to upgrade to the Constantine clamp.

I'm glad you're trading the car and not the wife (for not checking what dragged under the car). But you may want to explain to her that ignoring strange noises or warning lights on a Porsche can result in the most expensive miles she'll ever drive.

It's a beautiful example of the 928, great model year that has many upgrades otherwise only found on GTS models, and a pretty good price, too! I would not sell mine (106k miles) for even close to that little money!
