Default Front Speaker Mounting Depth (S4)?

Okay I've read through a lot of threads without finding a clear answer. I am hoping someone can give me a definitive answer...

What is the original and maximum mounting depth for the front 4" speaker in the S4 without major modification? I am looking at a number of component 4" with crossover & tweeter. I know the Focal for $549 will fit as will older MB Quarts & Blaupunkt if they can be found; however there seem to be a number that are 2" and less out there now.

Thanks in advance!

Michael

I believe when I measured it it was actually 55mm right in the middle of the cutout, but there is a recessed area right in the middle, and there is less depth elsewhere behind the opening. If the magnet is 2" and very narrow, then you'd be OK, but otherwise, more like 45mm.

The grille design is also a factor. This Visaton is technically too deep, but, with the extra depth provided by the grille flange (which mounted behind the speaker frame), it just fit.

BTW, Hans SerVaas, one of our members here, is working on a custom fit two way system for 928 doors. Maybe he'll chime in with some details on that...

Look pretty nice. Were the rear speakers a direct fit as well?

Unfortunately, they're discontinued and don't seem to be very available from the surplus market either.
