low and surging idle- Fixed
I have been battling a low and badly surging idle whilst hot and intermittent misfire since I purchased the car last year. Above idle the car seemed to performed great but the red light came on the relay ever so often. The so called local porsche specialist did an TB, WP, intake refresh, injector clean, chase vacuum leaks and recommended that I change the dampners and FPR, which I did. All to no avail. This all seemed an expensive parts replacement program to me (except the tb and wp) rather than fixing the problem. So I did my research on rennlist and decided that it was time for me to have ago at this wrenching business. So I checked the flex plate thingy and fitted a PKlamp, new fuel lines and fuel pressure gauge, then started investigating the idle and misfire issues, thanks to those who helped and set me in the right direct. .
I worked out it was cly 6 that had an misfire (red light on relay, then checking the plugs), then traced this back to a problem with the cap and rotor on the passenger side.
After various discussions with John Speake and other members of this forum I came to the conclusion that the MAF must also be out of spec.
So I replaced the wires, coils, plugs, rotors and caps (thanks roger and carl). Rebuilt the MAF (cheers John) and replaced the Temp II sensor. Once put it all back together, tested everything with my new PDT999, then fired her up.
She now runs beautifully, after a few italian tuning test runs checked again on the PDT999, no faults. Job done!
Now onto the 1001 other jobs to restore this S4 and learning how to do it myself!
