I usually use Auto Atlanta. Instant real time VIN info vs. waiting for email.

Finding the "history" on the car after it was sold isn't something that you'll find at a dealer unless maybe it was dealer-serviced. You have the option codes already, and the build stickers on the car sometimes seem to be somewhat more accurate than the records in Porsche's system.

If you are looking for ownership history, you can get a rough idea at places like Carfax. They don't tell you who owned the car, but they can usually tell you when and where it changed hands, and the mileage associated with that. Here in Cali, I think the DMV offers a smog-check history on cars by VIN, but privacy rulles still keep ownership history away from the general public.

Does anyone know what option code "I158" is on a 87 S4?

Bummer-- It's out of warranty!

pcar928fan 02-05-2011 09:32 PM

I ran AutoCheck on most all of my cars and the info was staggeringly incorrect when it came to how many owners there were for a particular car...

Hilton 02-05-2011 10:15 PM

Jeff - is the car in question a 1990 white GT?

edit: In case you're wondering - that list of options is pretty unique. The car I'm thinking of that has a lot of those is this one

Don Carter 02-06-2011 10:48 AM

I ran my car throught AutoAtlanta and it showed the engine as 292HP vs 288, and the liters as 4.7 instead of 5.0, both wrong.

No surprises on the options.

M319 Changed step-up of fan
M418 Side protection moldings
M490 Sound package
M494 Additional amplifier
M533 Anti-theft device
M570 Air conditioner with improved efficiency
M650 Electrical sliding roof

this car was ordered very unique. it was ordered option wise just like a 89-90 gt would have.

Ah ok, I did a more explicit search for that set of option codes, rather than just picking a few. Its WP0JB0927HS862375

Very nice set of options - full leather interior with rootwood, and more unusual, leather switchgear/vents/speaker rings etc.

Your car is very similar to this one here linked from Nicole's signature..

Some pictures of all the cool leather bits would get a lot of appreciation here :)

Please do - your car is one of a very select few with that many leather options, and the more good pictures you can provide the better :)
