Default Rebuilding Euro Heads,

So im going to start getting the parts together to build my euro 2v heads. i have the heads, valves and stock springs. i will have to order everything else. i have tow main questions,

1. what angle valve job should i get? 2,3,5?
2. is port/polish worth much on euro heads?

thanks guys!

I would have the shop doing the work recommend the valve angle. Probably 3. As for porting, you will pay a lot for very little gain. The old guy that did my Euro heads said they looked good when I asked him the same thing.

1. 3 angle min , but more importian is the margin , or in other words the contact area . A larger valve/seat contact the longer the valves live , the smaller the more power . Too small and there will be not enough heat transfer . 2 . port/ polish yes there is power to be had if the rest of the motor is capable of using the extra air . Expect to pay a lot to get it done right , porting and valve work on my 16V heads was 3500.00 Terry

You might think about having the tops surfaced too, so that you dont have to worry about cam carrier leaks.

Unless you do a radical port and chamber job with bigger valves you won't see much gain, but it's worth doing a clean up. What Mark said is all that's necessary as they're pretty good to start with. Honing the runners is also worth doing to clean up casting irregularities, and also doing a bit of intake port matching of runners to heads, and exhaust ports to manifold. If you're running 86.5 manifolds, which are worth putting on, there are a a few weld ridges you can clean up to tidy them up too. What exhaust manifolds/headers are you running?

The tech spec booklets (the booklets with the concentrated id'#s and the torque specs) have good valve train information.

Check AO's signature line for a link if you don't have the CD set.

What year is the set of Euro heads? (I assume its a spare set)

My experience is that a clean up works, we increased the flow of the heads on my engine without making the port any bigger, i.e still 40 mm and the flow was up around 15 to 20% on stock. This can't hurt, there was a 3 angle valve job, slightly raised roof and short side was made less abrupt. What ever you do do not increase the size of the port, it is already too big.

It's worth checking you have good port matching before you bolt back on..

Just my opinion, but for every 100 people with a sign out saying we do porting, maybe a handful make any improvements.

I'm planning on port match, clean up casting marks, and go with a big cam.
