Default Connecting points for battery maintainer??

I was looking in the manual to see where the battery jump post under the hood is, and on page 84 of my manual it says to jump the car you should access the battery in the back and proceed as normal. I have not been under the hood to make sure that the post is there, but I am assuming that it is.....

What I am trying to decide it where I am going to attach my battery maintainer under the hood. I think Sean said to attach the positive side to the jumping post, and the negative to a ground under the hood. Could somebody give me any more specific directions to these locations?? Is there pretty much only one way to connect the + side to the jumping terminal?? What would be the best ground location to use??

I just have a small battery maintainer that I will use over the winter, but I really need to get it connected tomorrow, so any advice would be appreciated!

The jump post is located on the passenger side fender. It sticks out about an inch and if still there it will have a plastic cover that slides off of it. Attach your red, or positive clamp, there. An appropriate ground would be the bolt on the cross bar just above and slightly back from the post.

Mine's connected to the jump post for positive, with the ground lead tied to the existing ground on the fender wall just forward of the jump post and the radiator sheet.

The jump post is on the right (Pass side on US cars...) fender wall in the engine bay. The plastic cap covers a hex stud that screws through a couple ring terminals in the positve circuit between the alternator and the CE panel. Hook up your maintainer positive lead there with the other terminal there.

The ground connection is forward of an below the jump post, immediately towards the fender where the trans coolr lines pass into the cooler on my car ('89 S4). 6mm bolt with a 10mm hex head passes through a few ring terminals there, all with brown wires attached.

Put a fuse in the positive lead from the maintainer connector to the jump post, something on the order of 10 amps or so.

BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY IN THE REAR OF THE CAR WHILE YOU MESS WITH THE POSITIVE JUMP POST.

I use the always hot supply to the drivers seat motors for my maintainers. Wired into a phono socket mounted below the e brake lever. Very discrete - even a concours judge wouldn't find it and impossble to drive off without connecting.

Have to add my maintainers don't produce volts unless there is some voltage sensed at the connection so no danger of shorts when connecting.

I had a problem where the battery tender never went to the solid green light, no matter how long you left it. The cause was a resistive layer on the live and ground connections under the hood. Just gave them a light sanding and no more problems. The other clue that this is happening is that the battery tender DOESNT get warm while charging - it should do until the green light comes on.

I have to ask how come something like this is not in the sticky FAQ...or is it. Do a search, you find many opf us answering this more than once - I have at twice a year for the last 5 or 6. Under my user name you will find - off road type 12v accessory socket under the rear license plate, through the bumper cover, fused lines direct to the battery, with links to the type of plug/socket. You can remove the car's earth lead, and the battery stays on trickle.

Blue plastic cover (hexagonal) screw type. Almost perpendicular to the radiator hose (passenger side as noted above by Charley B and dr bob). +1 with their protocols too.

I have put my battery maintainer on the hot post on the drivers side (US) of the car. It is an easy connection for the positive and also for the negative. I would strongly recommend disconnecting your battery before making this connection as the screw for the positive lead is always hot.

Here are a couple of pictures from the '90 GT. I have used this successfully now for a few months and have had no issues with the battery maintainer (I am using a C-TEK 3300) not functioning as expected.

Just another option to connecting at the jump post.

Cheers
Glenn

i have mine hooked to the battery and it goes out of the battery box (via grommet/hole) and hangs a little under the rear bumper and i hook it up that way.

I hooked my pigtail directly to the battery in the rear. Easy access to hook it together for charge, and I can disconnect the battery ground while working and simultaneously charge if needed.
