You are certainly welcome - I enjoyed the journey, Man

And I couldn't have done it without you there with your patience, design intuition and experience, and CAD Skilz

As Jim said, however, the proof is in the pudding - looking forward to its incarnation!

Hey, Jon B., I hope all is well with you. I just think the Phone Dials give such a great look to the 928 (and 944). I heard someone in Texas (or maybe it was Wisconsin?) was running the combination I now have, so I went for it, and am very glad I did!

Yeah, those old phone dials are a work of functional art. The ultimate match of design effectiveness and engineering prowess, curvaceous balance and ovoid perfection. A tough act to follow, indeed!

Jim and Carlos, thank you!

here is something to consider,
on the back of the wheel where it mounts to the hub ,
can it be made so that there will be cutouts so if someone was fitting bolt on spacers the bolt on nuts will clear?.
I ran into this issue today,
the wheels were actually seated on the studs and not mounted to the spacer surface this resulted in a wheel that would wobble

Yes, Stan. There is clearance for studded spacers & lugs. Thanks for looking out for me!

I'm gonna need a set 'round April.
Any wags at dates?

Dave, you could get in on alpha-production to meet your timeframe.
There really is no wait-list as the project is "booked" only thru beta-prototype, at this point.
Hoping have more definite plans on this by the end of Oct.

Thanks!

Well, when the wait-list is constituted, count me in for a set, 9x18 ET65, 10x18 ET63.

Cool! So I guess you would be on the pre-wait-list wait-list. Obviously very unofficial, but anyone, feel free to express interest here.

Once we see these on a car, and I get everything sorted and locked down, I'll start a poll on this thread to make it more official.

PS. Fitment may land somewhere around 9x18 ET70, 10x18 ET65

I would like to see pics of the final product first, but please add my name to the provisional pre-wait-list wait-list

I think these wheels will be a most excellent addition. The two wheel styles I like best for the 928 are the Phone Dials and the Cup II's. If this project is a success, can we dream of a similar design and manufacture of a similar size Cup II wheel? If yes, please add my name to the as-yet-defined-provisional-pre-wait-list-wait-list.

I would think you could build a nice niche market for reviving the older wheel designs in more modern sizes and offsets.

Keep up the great work.

Right on Dan! I'm a big fan of the Cup I & II's as well.

Would love to get to the point where I could build enough capital to support many wheel product designs, and offer them to a broader audience.

The main reason I'm doing this is to develop casf-flow to restore the #1 car. Frankly, I can't do it within my current means. Not asking for pity (wah wah ), but I know I need to take things to another level to make it all happen.

This is just one of many products that will be passing thru the 928 Classics pipeline.

Thanks again for your interest!

Might be too late already but few thoughts about ET's anyway. I have always used factory 8x16 ET60 Club Sport wheel as reference point when considering what ET's to have. Using it as starting point we can come up with these numbers. Outside of the car at left and suspension side on right.

Code:
| 8" 203.2mm  |
|--|---|------|
| A| B |   C  |
A = 41.6mm
B = 60.0mm
C = 101.6mm

Based on above numbers any wheel meant for 928 front end should extend out around 42mm from hub so that outside edge is in acceptable position compared to fender. Common 8" aftermarket wheels which have something like ET52 brake this rule by 8mm's. Meaning they extend out 1/3" more than maxed out factory setup which from factory point of view already requires fender rolling. Veloce 3.6 Speedline copy is good example of this. It just looks somewhat silly sticking too far out.

In my opinion when aim is to make 928 specific wheels it would be good to follow factory setup. For 8.5" and 9" wheels this means following.

Code:
| 8.5" 215.9mm |
|--|---|-------|
| A| B |   C   |
A = 41.6mm
B = 66.4mm
C = 108.0mm

Code:
| 9" 228.6mm     |
|--|----|--------|
| A|  B |    C   |
A = 41.6mm
B = 72.7mm
C = 114.3mm

So for 8.5" ET66 would be ideal and for 9" ET73. Will 9" fit with 275 wide tire so that it will not hit stock spring strut I don't know. I'm quessing it will but it would be good to check. Same thing goes with some mm less also. 3mm is not much if current aim is 9" ET70 but 70ish is as low as I would want to go. Anything less and we begin to get that horrible aftermarket look again.

What to do with the rears then. To minimize cost etc I would use exact same center piece as at front end. Early phones were same at both ends. So same outer rim could be used at rear also. Or do people want rears to have more lip? If same center and outer pieces are used 10" and 11" would have these ET's.

Code:
| 10" 254.0mm       |
|--|------|---------|
| A|   B  |    C    |
A = 41.6mm
B = 85.4mm
C = 127.0mm

Code:
| 11" 279.4mm         |
|--|-------|----------|
| A|   B   |     C    |
A = 41.6mm
B = 98.1mm
C = 139.7mm

So 10" would be ET85 and 11" ET98. Much bigger than makes sense other that from simplicity point of view but bolt on spacers will allow practically any positioning one wants. Preventing need for spacers can be achieved if wider outer lip is used with same center as front end. Problem is that front and rear will not look uniform. Really big ET 10" could also be used at front with smaller diameter springs.

Anyway, I think key to whole thing is to make large enough front ET for 9" wheel. Rest can be sorted out much more easily and I'm definitelly interested if price is right. For them to clear F50 front calipers would be real bonus. Though I'd like Cup I, Cup II and Speedline replicas with right ET even better.

Good logic Errka. Reads like we're pretty close on the fronts at a proposed ET70.

For the rears, since we know spacers will be needed, I guess it comes down to what the market likes. Deep outer rim lip vs. semi-deep. Same front and back vs. "staggered looking"

I keep forgetting the 10" non-staggered combo.

I think the high offset scenario you propose could work. Personally, I like the outer rim lip depth on the front. Also I do have concerns that the design will get lost with too deeply inset center.

Good stuff Erkka, thank you.

Jim,
Will I be able to run stranded chains in the wintertime with these?
