Very interesting, and thank you for posting the link. Now I know why I can't tell the difference
Amazing what some marketing and production rights can do for prices $$$.

Cheers!

Here ya go. I think this material would look great in the door inserts on a 928.

I agree! Makes for a nice contrast to the large leather area I think.

Default Carpet install begins

Started the install of the carpet pieces in the car this week. The interior floors are getting a layer of silverknit carpet as a foundation before the main pieces are installed. Also finished some additional interior trim pieces, center console sides, door card inserts (Ultra-Suede) and glove bow with edge trim pice also covered in silver knit carpet.

The electronic antenna receiver arrived today, about 3.5 inches long, and should, I am told, provide the same reception as a rod antenna. It will be installed underneath the rear interior quarter panel where there is a large area of glass that won't block signals. The GPS antenna will be located in the same manner on the opposite side of the car.

I also received the signal processor/converter that will take RPM and vehicle speed from the OBD-II and/or from a separate VSS sensor or tachometer signal. If both are supplied it will compare the signals and can provide the proper output for the cruise control. Mounting location will be the driver's dead pedal.

Cheers!
Carl

Default Interior work

Some minor, although time consuming things done this week. Stripped the foam of the very warped rear interior quarter panels, and went to town straightening them out and reinforcing them with fiberglass. The factory foam varied in thickness on this panel, making me think it was sprayed on. Thickness ranged from 2mm to over 5mm at certain spots. Naturally the foam stunk of 25 years of all kinds of smells. Also reduced the diameter of the tweeter cutout as the Audiofrog tweeter is much smaller in diameter.

The leather trim pieces for the rear quarter windows were installed, and also some edge protection was installed on the front fenders inside the engine compartment. In addition to protecting the edge paint, the rubber edging will avoid scuffed knuckles as well...

Finally I got started on the mockup of the dash/center console modifications. Still a lot of cutting and gluing to be done, but it shows the general idea of the layout.

Next up is Volara foam on the rear interior quarter panels followed by leather covers. Carpet will be finished once some final pieces arrives from Rob Budd.

Cheers!
Carl

Hi Carl, the fender edge protection you chose look really similar to what was used on early 928s. Where did you get it?

I continue to thoroughly enjoy your updates and perseverance. Keep it up!

Hi Jim, thanks.

I got the edge protection from a Hong Kong supplier on Ebay. I couldn't find that type from any domestic seller, but there is a UK company that sells them too:
