I'll take $8,500 from a Rennlister. I paid $11,000 3 months ago.

He was looking for a different experience. Pretty simple. Decisively shifted when it didn't materialize. In the big picture, the $ loss was small potatoes. We live a short time. If you have the resources and need to take a different path, you take it. Its advanced thinking. Kudos for making the call.

Yeah, although we gave him a hard time, I think that he probably made the right decision getting rid of the 928 and buying something newer. I know that some do it, but it really takes a certain personality and desire to use a 23 year old car as a daily driver. Also, to be fair to him, that car had a lot of issues for a car that he thought he was paying top dollar for to get a fully sorted car.

Yes but he got a "deal".....what is a little body work anyway ! Some people really do best with new cars with a warranty. If what they want is reliable transportation and easily defined costs that are predictable, used cars are always a roll of the dice. And Carfax does NOT get notified of all "accidents"......

I agree. We only buy new or nearly new with a warranty cars for my wife because that's what she feels comfortable with. OTOH, I never buy new cars for myself because I hate that initial depreciation and the locked in feeling that results.
The thing with Steve was that, based on his signature of past cars, I would have thought that he was experienced with older enthusiast type cars and knew what he was getting in to. However, based on his posts, he sounds like a teenager buying his first car.

I think that we are a group of DIY'ers here... It probably takes that to own a 928, really. I know I HATE paying others to work on a car!
Of course, I don't have a job...

Buying any p-car isn't a rational decision. I wish him luck and hope he doesn't begrudge the 928 community any ill will. Good luck with the 996 and see you on the road!!! Hope to see his 928 return to the community sometime.

Yeah I have a 2010 Jetta for that, leased it, just a monthly payment and that includes maintenance. It's really quite a fun little car.
That means I can take my time fixing stuff on the Porsche - doesn't matter if it's in pieces for a week.
